[edit] History
Ali was born in New Zealand in 1983. He began to play at the age of 17 in his home town of Osmotherley, North Yorkshire, but it was at the age of 19 he decided to abandon a degree in mathematics at Leeds University to pursue a career in music. Gaining recognition from local open mic nights, Ali had soon established a solid reputation as an exciting new talent in West Yorkshire.
Over the next few years Ali looked to expand his sound and joined forces with a number of musicians, incorporating viola, lap steel, drums and piano into the band that would eventually become the BrokeRecordPlayers.
[edit] Touring
Ali has toured extensively in the UK, and has supported a number of high profile acts including: Tom McRae, James Yorkeston, Jonathan Rice, Holly Golightly, Liam Frost and the Slowdown Family and Captain. He has played a number of festivals including the Reading and Leeds Festivals and The Secret Garden Party. Ali has been successful in building a fan base by combining solo gigs in London with larger band performances in the North of England.
