Coordinates: 27°04′N 88°28′E / 27.06, 88.47 Algarah is a bazaar town located at a distance of 15 kilometres east of Kalimpong in West Bengal, India. It is at an elevation of 1,780 metres (5,840 ft) and has a population of about 3,000. Employment remains high, and many work as casual daily labourers. Most of the town's residents are ethnic Nepali.

Algarah is famous for the remains of ancient Damsang fort. It is said that king Damsang had built this fort with the help of his evil spirits who brought the round smooth big stones from the river Rishi. Bringing stones by human from that river which is located in a far distance is really a next to impossible task. The surrounding villages of this small bazaar are Paiyung Busty, Santook Menzong, Tenderbong and Dalapchand. People of these villages depend upon agriculture, floriculture milk production etc. Milk costs Rs. 8.00 per litre. Tenderbong busty comes in the first rank for the production of Milk. In many ways this place is lagging behind. Contribution of the people of this place in the Indian Army is worth mentioning. From every house at least one son is in the defence. All the sons from some of the families have joined the defence. Another noteworthy thing about Algarah is that the famous birding mile starts from Algarah to Lava. Lava is one of the hotspots for Indian birdlife.
