Alganon is a massively multiplayer online role-player game (MMORPG) designed by David Allen currently in development by Arizona-based Quest Online.
Alganon will feature eight races in total (four on each side of the conflict) and a current total of nine classes. There will be two main continents: Ardonya and Harraja.
Alganon will boast a family system that will assign each new player to a family upon creation. This will serve as a starting social framework and a vehicle for new character interaction. Active participation in a family will be voluntary. Players can join a guild as well.

[edit] Development
Currently, Alganon is in the Alpha stage of development and is due to be released in 2009. In spite of its' immaturity, the game is already playable .[1] Private beta is scheduled to begin late 2007.[2]
[edit] Gameplay
Alganon plans for traditional MMORPG gameplay, with refinements to the current paradigm.
[edit] Groups
Group sizes will come in three tiers: Group, Legion, and Battalion. The Group will be comprised by a maximum of six player characters. The Legion will be comprised by a maximum of six groups (36 players). The Battalion will be comprised by a maximum of six Legions (216 players). Group-wide communication (in-game texting and voice-chat) is planned for each tier.[3]
[edit] Skills
Alganon plans for a mixed-model skill system. Skills are planned to increase with use similar to traditional MMOGs, but advancement will be capped based on a real-time metric. Skill gains are planned to also be trained offline, similar to Eve Online. In this hybrid model, players will be able to actively increase their skills, but not at such a pace that they will permanently outstrip less active players. This is designed to allow more casual players to remain competitive without being on-line.
[edit] Features
[edit] Families
The family system is a new and revolutionary way to give new players an easy access to the world of Alganon.
Characters will be born into a family upon their creation. The family is selected randomly from a set number of predefined families and the character gains a certain bonus depending on the family he or she belongs to. Families have their own chat channel that allows their members to communicate, to help each other and organize family activities.
The character can aid in the growth of his family's wealth and power or ignore his bonds to the family and focus on his guild.
[edit] The Library
Alganon plans to incorporate a grand library into the world. This will serve as a central on-line, in-game repository of all known items, spells, NPCs, and other content, updating in real time per server as it is discovered by players. Game mechanics are planned to encourage exploration of the world and accumulation of knowledge through tangible rewards. Also, the library is planned to highlight the accomplishments of all Families, and to periodically reward the most accomplished with a dynastic title, i.e. 'The FamilyName Dynasty' - reflecting the preeminence of that family.[4]
[edit] World History
[edit] Continents
The world of Alganon has two known continents; Ardonya and Harraja. Each is home to an organization that is opposed to the other.
[edit] Ardonya
Ardonya is the home continent of the Asheroth. Their capital city is Asheran, centrally located to Ardonya. Other major cities include Aeon, located on a westward island, and Haderos, located to the northeast.
[edit] Harraja
Harraja is the home continent of the Kujix. Their capital city is Xanjuix Karr, centrally located to Harraja. Other major cities include Oggath to the east, and Trazsha to the northwest.
[edit] Organizations
[edit] Asheroth
An organization created in the fifth age of Alganon, dedicated to studying arcane and combative arts. Sworn enemies to the Kujix. The Asheroth faction are the protectors of Ardonya. They believed sed protection came by way of order, discipline, power, and control. This refined and sophisticated group embraces the wasy of light, nature, heart, and mind. It is said that the more powerful a member of the Asheroth, the brighter their eyes glow. The races currently following the Asheroth ways are Human, Sylvain, Dronar, and Kodian.
[edit] Kujix
Created in the fifth age of Alganon by the emperor of Xanjuix Karr. The Kujix, the sworn enemy to the Asheroth, feel power is obtained by conquest, and conflict naturally determines the strong from the weak. The Kujix organization protects their home of Harraja. The Kujix believe strength was obtained through domination, deception, manipulation. It is said the more powerful a member of the Kujix, the more darkness emanates from their eyes. Kujix architecture tends to utilize dark stone and crystals in their structures, and harness the power of subterranean sources such as volcanoes. The races currently following the Kujix ways are Talrok, Vesperling, Ogre, Fiend.
[edit] Races and classes
[edit] Races
Alganon currently plans for four races and five classes for each side.[5]
Asheroth:
Races: Human, Sylvain, Dronar, and Kodian
Classes: Champion, Guardian, Healer, Ranger, and Magus
From the World History of Alganon, the races are described in greater detail.[6] Humans need no explanation. The Sylvain are described akin to elves. The Dronar are larger-than-human subterranean humanoids. Kodians are ursine in appearance and are attuned to nature. They were created by the gods of Order to remind the world of good.
Kujix:
Races: Talrok, Vesperling, Ogre, and Fiend
Classes: Warlord, Slayer, Healer, Assassin, and Sorcerer
The Talrok are a dark race of deceptive humanoids. Vesperlings are an all-female race that are rumored to be each created individually by the god. Ogres are similar to the traditional fantasy race; large, strong, untiring. Fiends are humanoid and have demon-like horns growing from their skulls. They were created by the gods of Chaos to counter the Kodians.
[edit] Classes
There is very little information revealed about the classes at this time. Healer is the only class available to both sides.
[edit] Deities and Crusades
[edit] Deities
Players can choose to have their characters follow a deity. This can grant certain abilities and benefits depending upon the deity followed.
It is planned for the deities to actively participate in the history of the world, rather than exist as static NPCs. This can lead to players encountering their deity in person and the possibility of receiving personalized quests.
The following deities are known so far:
- Asheroth: God(ess) of Light, Deliverance, Blessing, and Life
- Kujix: God(ess) of Death, Pain, Deception, and Oblivion
[edit] Crusades
Alganon plans for large scale warfare between Battalions of players. Whether conflict arises from different factions, different deities, or other antagonistic NPCs, these large scale dynamic content quests will be called Crusades.
