Talk:Alfredo Stroessner
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- "and then was re-elected to 8 consecutive terms "
Suuuuuuuure, he was re-elected... How? This article needs some more depth. There's a few things about his autocratic ways, but not about how he managed to get re-elected 8 times. There's nothing about what his laon-repayment policies did affected the Paraguays, or how Paraguayans themselves feel/felt about him. Any Paraguayans here who knows more about the guy? Red Star
[edit] Itaipu and Xuxa
All I know is that during exile he used to wake up early just to watch the Xuxa show [1].
And about Itaipu: It's quite lame to give his government any credit for it. There was no way that Paraguay would end up with a bad agreement (tough from time to time they talk about revsing the terms). The fact that the country exports a large portion of their share of the energy produced is not a good thing. It's sad that they still can't use it all. But I believe this is about to change, not quite sure... -- NIC1138 04:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
a dictator was not a president. here Stroessner is presented in a revisionistic manner.
notably in these sentences:
"Alfredo Stroessner Matiaud served as President of Paraguay from 1954 to 1989."
"His regime is also blamed for torture"
"Stroessner was, however, known for several positive economic policies"

[edit] name
Is there any documentation for the Stößner spelling given at the start of the article? or is this just taken over from a typo some-where? Kdammers (talk) 00:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
