Talk:Alfred Waterhouse

[edit] University?
He studied architecture under Richard Lane at the University of Manchester - some mistake, surely? The university was founded in 1851, and would have been unlikely to offer architecture as a subject of study. Architects were apprenticed or articled, and other sources, e.g. http://www.berkshirehistory.com/bios/awaterhouse.html say that Waterhouse was apprenticed to Richard Lane. - The article was changed from He studied architecture under Richard Lane in Manchester to the current text on the 11th March 2007 by an anonymous editor who changed nothing else and cited no sources. It is possible we are looking at an unspotted piece of vandalism; or it may be an inexperienced editor who made an assumption too far; or it may be true. Whichever, it is not supported by the cited references and I shall revert it to the original text which doesn't explicitly rule out the UoM. -- Chris j wood (talk) 10:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
