[edit] About my edits to this page, and more...

This is in response to complaints by the creator of this page that were left on my talk page [1] and in an unblock request [2]... I'm putting it here as I assume, since the user has already re-added the material twice (under two other names), that he or she will see this. I want to explain why I initially made the changes I did, and why I think later reversions by other users to my version are appropriate. I found this page while doing newpage patrol and was surprised to realize there wasn't already an article on Alfred Dunner. As I found it, the article was in need of some wikification -- there were no internal links, no references, no categories, and a lack of appropriate formatting. I knew it was a notable subject and wanted to see the article improve, so I did a first pass at cleaning it up. In the process, I looked for references, and couldn't quickly find a reference for the opening of new stores (it's not mentioned on the company's site) or for all the stores listed as selling the company's products. A Google search did find a news story mentioning the opening of an outlet store, so I changed the article to mention that and added the reference. I also changed the list of stores to include only ones listed on the company's website as carrying their products, and removed some wording that I thought was possibly not from a neutral point of view about the clientele for the clothing. I'm not attempting to say that the company isn't opening mall stores, but material on the Wikipedia needs to be referenced with reliable sources -- saying that someone told you so doesn't count. Also, I'm sure their products are sold at many stores not listed on their website, but I'd like to see some sort of reference for that as well. If there are appropriate references for these things, then please, add them back, with those sources cited. As others have mentioned on talk pages [3], no one owns any pages here -- anyone can edit. Yes, it's true [4] that there is much uncited material here, and that's something that's slowly being corrected. Newly-added pages, though, get more attention than things that have been here for some time, and so are more likely to be tagged for lack of sources or edited heavily to remove unsourced material. In addition, hundreds (if not thousands) of pages that are completely inappropriate are created each day, and it's sometimes difficult for users working to tag those pages for deletion to tell the difference between a nonsense page and a page on a notable subject that's just unsourced and poorly formatted. If you want to see your pages survive and become a useful part of the Wikipedia, take a little time before starting them to find basic sources and include those sources appropriately, either as in-line references or external links. Also, make an effort to create pages that conform to the stylistic conventions here and are connected into the rest of the Wikipedia by having internal links to other articles where appropriate and being placed in relevant categories. Doing these things will make your article stand out from the mass of gibberish that's added to the Wikipedia daily and inspire others who see the article to improve it.
