Alfred Newman (New Zealand)

Alfred Kingcome Newman (18491924) was the Mayor of Wellington, New Zealand in 1909, and a Wellington City Councillor from 1881 to 1885.

He was the Member of Parliament for Thorndon 1884-90, Hutt 1890-93, then Wellington Suburbs from 1893 to 1896 when he was defeated (standing for Otaki). Later he was MP for Wellington East, from 1911 to 1922, when he retired.

He was a member of the Legislative Council from 1922 to 1924, and for many years was on the Wellington Education Board, the Wellington College Board of Governors and the Senate of the University of New Zealand.

He was born in India, and a Doctor of Medicine.
