Alfred Jean Baptiste Lemaire

Alfred Jean Baptiste Lemaire was a French military musician who came to Iran in 1868, during the reign of King Nasser-al-Din Shah (1848-1896), to train the staff of the music department of Darl-ol Fonoun (Khaleqhi 2002). He composed Iran's first national anthem, introduced harmony into Iranian music, composed several pieces inspired by classical Iranian music and trained many notable musicians. He was also responsible for the first attempt to write classical Iranian music down.
He was born 15th January 1842 in Air-sur-la-Lys, France and died in Tehran 24th February 1907.
