Alfred Brinckmann (3 January 1891, Kiel – 30 May 1967, Kiel) was a German chess International Master, author and functionary.

Brinckmann was a lifetime member in the association Kieler SG 1884. Between 1921 and 1949 he participated eight times in German championships. Its largest success celebrated he 1927 with the tournament in Berlin, as it the first place occupied before considerable masters how Aron Nimzowitsch, Efim Bogoljubow and Friedrich Sämisch.[1]
During World War II, when Ehrhardt Post was a President of Grossdeutscher Schachbund, Brinckmann took 16th at Bad Oeynhausen 1940 (7th GER-ch, Georg Kieninger won); took 3rd at Hamburg 1941 (Klaus Junge and Herbert Heinicke won); took 7th at Warsaw/Lublin/Krakow 1942 (3rd GG-ch, Alexander Alekhine won), and took 3rd at Madrid 1943 (Paul Keres won).[2]
In 1953 he became an International Master. His highest Historical Elo number reached was in 1928 with 2469. In 1965 he was appointed the SG Kiel Honourary member.

Brinckmann wrote numerous books, among them several biographies (among other things about Efim Bogoljubow) and tournament reports. Is controversial its 1940 written book Chess master in the fight: Views for the chess of the present, in which it National Socialist Ideas represent: This book developed in of Germany largest historical time. It is frequent in it from the fight and victory the speech, and in such a way herein also a clear relationship with the present is to be seen. Brinckmann was anxious with such expressions, To publicise chess under stress of its kaempferischen element as national play for mental training.[3]

[edit] The functionary
Brinckmann worked considerably at the reestablishment of the German chess federation (FCB) - Deutschen Schachbundes (DSB) - in the post-war period also. From 1950 to 1967 he was a secretary of FCB. From 1953 to 1955 he took over the office of the tournament leader here, from 1962 to 1967 he was an arbitrator.
1966 appreciated its earnings/services with that of FCB Golden honour needle of the German chess federation.
