I'm back from my one-year WikiBreak (10/20/05 - 10/25/06)! However, I am very busy in RL, so I won't be able to go on Wikipedia very often.
Welcome, {your name here}, to my talk page. Feel free to write your thoughts here, however, be warned as I can and will delete anything I want to. It's my talk page, remember? Oh yeah, and don't forget the golden rule of Wikipedia -- vandalising pages is frowned upon.

[edit] Welcome
Welcome!
Hello, Alex Nisnevich, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! --Flockmeal 02:43, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] AD&D races
Hi, what arrangements have you made for using material from "Fizban's Dragonlance Archive" and other AD&D-related sites? Note that Wikipedia does not allow inclusion of copyrighted material unless the author has agreed to release it under Wikipedia's license. Please respond on my talk page. Thanks. Gazpacho 19:45, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Before asking permission, I suggest that you write summaries in your own words. However, for legal reasons you have to follow a procedure:
-
- Replace the article text with {{copyvio}}.
- After you have done this, follow the link to the temporary subpage.
- Write original text there.
- If you are able to secure permission, the original article can be restored. I don't think you should mention that you have already used the material when you ask. Gazpacho 22:11, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright tags
Thanks for uploading Image:LunaLovegood.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? I know you said that your friend allowed you to use it on Wikipedia. If permission was given for use on Wikipedia only, and does not include third parties, then it needs to have the tag Template:Permission. Unfortunatly these type of images are no longer allowed on Wikipedia and will deleted. Please ask your friend if they can release the image under the [[Creative Commons Attribution License v. 2.0]]. The details can be found here: [1]. If your friend agrees, please tag the image with Template:Cc-by-2.0. Thanks so much, michael180 21:55, August 3, 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll ask. Please don't delete the images yet! Give me some time. -- Alex Nisnevich (talk) 22:49, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
- OK, I obtained permission. I'm putting the copyright tags in now. -- Alex Nisnevich (talk) 21:00, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- I noticed Image:LunaLovegood.jpg still does not have a tag. Please add one. Thank You. --michael180 14:02, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

The image page said it was licensed under the creative commons license, but your upload comment merely said you had permission. Did your friend explicitly license it under the creative commons license? Reply on my talk page, please. Superm401 | Talk 04:23, August 6, 2005 (UTC)
You addition of the section heading that said Proof made the article misleading, in that it made it look as if everything in the article under that heading is about the proof. In fact, only the first paragraph after the new heading is about the proof; the part after that is about something else. Sometimes a new section heading necessitates other new section headings (and in this case, I've now added one). I've seen the same thing happen in lots of other articles. [edit] Shannara
[edit] (Serovich)
Hey, You messaged me about Shannara WikiProject. Yeah, sure I can join the project (if I can figure out how to use Wikipedia that is). Elfstones is my favorite book after all.
For now I am working on The Four Lands page because I like geography. I'll probably split it into 4 parts (no need to ask which) and maybe even make separate pages for large cities. You may remove Four Lands from the to do list if you wish, I'll take care of it. Then maybe I'll do some work on characters and other small-scale stuff.
One more thing, the plot summary for The Sword of Shannara is wrong. Yes, wrong, not inaccurate. Along with small mistakes whoever made it obviously did not understand its ending of the book or confused it with Lord of the Rings. Can you please fix it or find someone to do it or put it on to do list. I did not read the other book plots.
Now with business taken care of let me introduce myself. My name is Alex Serov (да, я тоже русский). My nickname is Serovich(not sure why). I live in United States (Maryland). Right now I'm studying in university. No notable special interests. I read books, play computer games, and various sports for fun. I read all four of the first Shannara books and The Scions of Shannara, now reading The Druid of Shannara. Unfortunately I have no books after that. I'm telling you this because I don't want to edit my personal page (I consider that the most boring activity one can think of). My email is serovich@gmail.com. Ok, thanks, hope to hear from you.

[edit] Urgent:image
Please act quickly or this image will be deleted!
Thanks for uploading Image:Sigma.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much.
[edit] Image copyright problem RE: Image:Bell curve.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Bell curve.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:
- The copyright holder, and
- The copyright status
The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.
Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.
There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:
- The copyright holder gets the best protection of his work by licencing their work under an open content license like the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence. If you have the express permission of the copyright holder to licence their work under the above licence, use the image copyright tag: {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. The GNU Free Documentation License is another choice for licencing one's work. Again, if you have the express permission of the copyright holder, use the tag: {{GFDL}}.
- The copyright holder can also release his work into the public domain, see here for images released into the public domain.
-
- Images from certain sources are automatically release into the Public Domain. This is true for most governments like the federal United States government. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments) However not all governments release their work into the public domain, such as the UK government (See herefor images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
- Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of Fair Use. To see if this image qualifies and then how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.
For any other sources of for more information see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that if you don't tag your images, they will be deleted.
-
- P.S. If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.
If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again.

Thanks for uploading Image:ChessRook.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. Hello. Round four of Wikipedia Mind Benders will open on Thursday, December 1. This round will be drastically different from round three; part one will consist of a creative project, and part two will be developed from there. The full details will be released when the round opens. Time and speed should not be major factors in this round; thus, there is no exact opening time for the round as speed will not factor into the scoring. Thanks! P.S. Please add Wikipedia:Mind Benders/to do to your watchlist to receive further announcements; the NotificationBot is currently down and all notifications will be placed on that page. Sorry for any inconvenience.

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Fvcicon.gif
|
This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Fvcicon.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. bluemask 16:12, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Paul_Zeitz.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Paul_Zeitz.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:ShannaraCreeper.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:ShannaraCreeper.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Allanon2.GIF
Thanks for uploading Image:Allanon2.GIF. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 18:30, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia 1.0
Hi Alex, thanks for signing up as a reviewer. We are currently in (I hope!) the last week or two of reviewing for WP:V0.5, if you want to help us complete the task sooner, we'd appreciate your help. Take a look at Wikipedia:Version 0.5/To do - we are mainly reviewing FAs, a few core topics and the core biographies at this point. I'd also appreciate a fresh pair of eyes at Wikipedia:Version 0.5 Set Nominations on the "isms" and the religions/deities sets, any comments you have would be welcome. In August we felt that we had too many FAs on unimportant topics and not enough important topics covered, but I think we have more-or-less restored the balance now. We have done that by accepting a lot of B-Class articles (and a few Start-Class) on important topics from the lists and sets shown (nominations outside of those lists have closed). Once you've taken a look, by all means contact my talk page for answers or suggestions.
By next month, we should be able to open up the next phase, which would probably be called Version 0.7, and of course there will be lots of reviewing there too. In the longer term, we are looking to generate much larger lists automatically from the bot-based assessments (over 150,000 articles have now been assessed by WikiProjects! All while you were on wikibreak!). But for now, these manual assessments are kinda better (though much slower!), because we know a person has physically looked over the article for the CD - I think this will give us a nice reliable & balanced "core" of articles we can rely on for all future releases, even after the automation comes in. Many thanks, Walkerma 21:37, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome! I'll see what I can do with the "isms" and religion sets. Alex Nisnevich 02:19, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Strugatsky novels
Hi, I've registered on Wikipedia a year or so ago, but I have just gotten around to doing stuff the past couple of days. I've noticed you also listed improving Strugatsky-related articles as your current focus. Do you have anything specific that you're working on? I've written a fairly long article on Space Apprentice/Probationers a few days ago, but I haven't gotten around to uploading and formatting it yet, maybe tomorrow afternoon. I've also started writing an entry about recurrent characters in their early novels (Bykov, Yurkovsky, etc.) - I think it would be good to have them in one place, and then the novels pages could link back to it, no need for repetitions - but that's nowhere near upload-ready yet. I'll let you know when I put them up - will you be as kind as to look them over? I read their works in Hungarian, and I don't speak any Russian, sadly. Happy editing! - prezzey 02:03, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- No, I'm not doing anything specific Strugatsky-wise, just fixing up everything that I can see. I'd be happy to look over your articles! =) Alex Nisnevich 02:45, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yay, thanks!! Here it is: Space Apprentice. It still needs a section on significance, and proper categories, and a bunch of other stuff, but right now I should really really be doing something else called "schoolwork" :] The English might be clunky in places, my sleep cycle has just gone casters-up *sigh*. prezzey 23:58, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- I read it over, made a few minor changes, and asked several questions in Talk:Space Aprrentice. Alex Nisnevich 00:40, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Little fighters 2.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Little fighters 2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 09:10, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
