[edit] License tagging for Image:OM @ 30.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:OM @ 30.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:12, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] William Como

Thanks for removing the tag (no problem about it); I trust we're on our way. I've added a crucial ref. here. Normally, I don't list causes of death of people unless something dramatic happened, as I don't like last lines on human's (or animal's) biographies to state that, and in many cases it's something private that no one needs to know. In this case however it may be OK, because some have assumed that Bill died of AIDS, since he was gay: yr article on "After Dark" makes that clear, but curiously leaves Bill out! (I recall the last time I saw him, he took me to dinner and said, "Mind if I smoke?". I sh'd've said, "Yes"). Sadly, Bill never wrote his autobiography. He had a terrific opening, & was so much in the center of things, and such a good gossip, that it would've been terrific. I think it was to be with Knopf. Even his last days make a poignant story of affectionate care.

I've tried to get Queenofthewilis to open a subsection under 'Dance' on *writing* including this and the Olga Maynard piece I introduced. Myrtha's not yet responded.

What we need here is structured information about Bill and Dance Magazine through the 70s and early 80s, when it described and helped shape what Philp (see fn 2) calls the most important event in 20th C. theater. I'll try to get in touch with Philp and interest him in this project. (I'm not, however, going to fix the "Dance Mag" entry more, as I have a day job.) Thanks for the protocol changes. I'm impressed that you got to the article so fast--and pleased to've gotten so much done in two days. Cheers, Alethe 00:34, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello. I have now removed the cleanup tag from the William Como article and hope that you weren't offended by my adding it earlier. I still think the article needs some attention to bring it into line with other Wikipedia biographies, but another user appears to be looking at it as I am writing you this message (and has actually made some edits), so any problems should hopefully be sorted out. Cheers Paul20070 22:23, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Have just read through this article again and it looks ok. You might want to add some information to the references though. I might try doing this myself in the next couple of days if nobody else does, but will have to read up on how to do it first. Cheers Paul20070 22:36, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Leonard Wibberley with friend.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Leonard Wibberley with friend.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Dance Magazine

Hello there. Thanks for your message about Dance Magazine. I've had a look at the article and made a couple of edits, but I'm still fairly new here myself, so I hope I've sorted the link to the magazine in the way you wanted.

I've also put the name in italics, which, I'm happy to say, is fairly easy to do. When italicising bold text, you just have to add an extra two apostrophes at the beginning and end of the word or sentence, and it will appear as both bold and italics.

BTW, well done with your contributions to the Olga Maynard article. It looks good. Keep up the good work. Cheers Paul20070 21:51, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lil' tip

If you want to have links that take the user to that special page full of library and shopping links for Wibberley's work, all you have to do is drop in ISBNs: Wikipedia:ISBN. Looks like you're in a better place than most to find them for the works that were published late enough to get one. MrZaiustalk 14:19, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Per your question about vandalism on other sites, if they're not user-editable, your best bet would be to contact whoever handles corrections there, just like you would for print media. In the case of Fantastic Fiction, they post this at the bottom of their page: "Questions? Comments? Corrections? Please email webmaster@fantasticfiction.co.uk". Good luck, MrZaiustalk 14:40, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tables?

Is this what you meant? The table layout for the Wiki is fairly straightforward. If you were to copy the layout of the first section, that would help. MrZaiustalk 11:24, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Leonard Wibberley

Don't let anybody know you did all that, or they'll call it "original research" and revert it! - DavidWBrooks 13:47, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Commercial use of Image:Author, 'The American Ballet'.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Author, 'The American Ballet'.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Author, 'The American Ballet'.jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Author, 'The American Ballet'.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 13:41, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Author,_'The_American_Ballet'.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Author,_'The_American_Ballet'.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Qst 16:16, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Blackfriars Bridge, north view, winter 2007, heron.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Blackfriars Street Bridge, from North, winter 2007, heron.jpg. The copy called Image:Blackfriars Street Bridge, from North, winter 2007, heron.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. [edit] Kwapiński

Thanks for expanding the article. Once you destub it and split references from notes per WP:MOS (see for example Józef Szczepański how it should look like); do add it to T:TDYK for a chance at mainpage exposure.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:32, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

I am not sure what you mean by corralling the WWII articles to a common site. Note we have "main" articles and categories for that period, starting with History of Poland (1939-1945).
pl:Administratorzy Łodzi lists Jan Kwapiński vel Piotr Chałupka as mayor of Łódź from 3 March 1939 to 4 September that year. Polish Wikipedia, as well as this somewhat more reliable source (newspaper article) note he was born as Piotr Chałupka. They give no explanation for why he would change his name; the article confirms he left Łódź on 4 September.
You can find out major authors of Lem's article by looking at its history and ask them yourself. Often, on Wiki, if you want something to be done, you have to do it yourself - like in real life :) If you like Lem, you may want to see what else Poland has to offer :) I highly recommend Jacek Dukaj.
For references, I find using the cite.php system the best; see Wikipedia:CITE#Footnotes (the <ref></ref> system). For notes, I use the ref/note system, with {{Ref_label|a|a|none}}{{Note_label|a|a|none}}<nowiki>Insert non-formatted text here</nowiki> tags. See this short article for examples how both styles are used in the same article. Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners essay may be helpful.
Take care, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 18:17, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Post-war fate often is very interesting. And sad. I don't know what's more tragic: the fate of those, like Witold Pilecki (hero of Auschwitz) who were executed by the communists, or those like general Stanisław Maczek (one of the greatest armor commanders of WWII) who were forced to work jobs like bartenders or porters on the foreign soil afterwards... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 13:41, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Re: diacritics, you may want to voice your opinion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (use English). They are a bit of a dead horse; the most recent discussion starts around threat 13 ("Proposal to...").
A good way to create content trees, in addition to categories, are templates. We have for example {{Polish Secret State}}; I am sure there is room for quite a few more (see also Category:Polish navigational boxes).
Perhaps you would like to introduce yourself a little bit on your userpage. For example, WP:BABEL templates give information on languages spoken, allowing others to know what sources you can read, verify, and translate. I know there are pros and cons of being anonymous; personally I decided long time ago that the cons outweigh the pros. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 13:41, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Goodden, Summer.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Polly (Parrot) 23:20, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DYKs

Both Kwapiński and the Bridge can be nominated for DYKs at T:TDYK under the clause new or recently expanded articles. What wikitraffic counter do you mean? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:16, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

It was requested that you shorten the hooks (I've done so for Kwapiński).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 01:36, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Nice. Out of curiosity, why the interest in Kwapiński in particular? A relative? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 03:06, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Although it appears we missed the DYK deadline, don't worry. We can yet achieve greater things: there is the WP:GA, and daunting - but not impossible - WP:FA statuses, the latter of which offers the 24h main page exposure. The good thing about Wikipedia is that there is no hurry (other than in DYKs); and with time, all articles improve (and off Wiki, more sources become available). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:46, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
