[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Voja.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Voja.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Admrboltz (T | C) 23:26, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry - I know the rules but missed it. The trick is that Voja is my friend... I hoped that he will either provide a different picture or edit the license himself. Fixed.

[edit] A quick favor

I noticed a very well done biography of Sima Lozanic at the Serbian wikipedia. I translated the first paragraph but with great difficulty and found myself overwhelmed with the others (I don't speak much of any Serbian). I was wondering if you could just do a quick translation of the remainder - it doesn't matter if you have any grammar mistakes or such, I will fix all those. The remainder is here in the Latin alphabet: Talk:Sima Lozanic and there's a link there to the cyrillic Serbian article. Thanks a lot. Antidote 06:59, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Done! Someone should also transfer images, fix the userbox and recategorize (I just translated categories but did not actually verify whether they exist in English Wikipedia...
--Aleksandar Šušnjar 17:42, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for the excellent and speedy translation. I have fixed up some of the language, added the categories and images, and put in some redirects and sources: Sima Lozanic. If you find time, take a look at Talk:List of Serbs and see if those poets I mention are non-notables. Also, thanks for the pointers on the Serbian language. I'm currently studying them ;). [edit] some, one, that

I noticed your edits in the Serbian section of non-native pronunciations of English. I was wondering if you could provide the actual Serbian words for "some" or "one" and "that". Also, the page is missing anything on Croatian and Bosnian. Do you think that the three languages are similar enough to go under the same category? AEuSoes1 20:40, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Regarding translations (all gender specific):
  • some - neki/neka/neko, cyrillic: неки/нека/неко
  • one - jedan/jedna/jedno, cyrillic: један/једна/једно
  • that - taj/ta/to, cyrillic: тај/та/то
Regarding Croatian, Bosnian and other of the same family: the situation is essentially the same as "languages" basically differ mostly accent and some slang. I was thinking about putting this in there, but I did not want to get involved in the tricky business of dealing with differing beliefs as to whether these are or are not the same language.
--Aleksandar Šušnjar 20:48, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps we could have a section titled Bosnian language, Croatian, and Serbian. Which is the neuter gender? Are these particular words the same for all three languages? AEuSoes1 21:40, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

I provided three forms. First two are masculine and feminine. The third one is neuter of sorts but not entirely. It would relate to children but inanimate objects would have to take either masculine or feminine one, not a neuter. For example:
  • some/one/that man = neki/jedan/taj čovek
  • some/one/that woman = neka/jedna/ta žena
  • some/one/that child = neko/jedno/to dete
  • some/one/that ship = neki/jedan/taj brod (takes masculine form)
  • some/one/that car = neka/jedna/ta kola (takes feminine form)
Forgot to mention that there are really two translations of "that". The close/near one is the one I mentioned (taj/ta/to) but there is also the "far/unreachable" kind (onaj/ona/ono). This does not need to relate to physical vicinity. If something has been mentioned in the conversation already it may be treated as "near" whereas introducing something new may be referred to as "far". That may flip in the middle of conversation. For example:
' You know that(far) John from marketing deparment? Now, that(near) John said...
The words are the same for all those languages, yes.
I also want to mention one interesting thing... I don't know whether it works or not, but I think it does more often than not... When Serbian/Croatian/Bosnian language speaker is taught English they could think of some/one/that analogy to a/the in order to pick the right one. The problem of whether or not to use any article at all still remains because even those words are not required in Serbian. You could say that "one" or "some" is assumed by default and the above example can easily be transformed into:
' You know John from marketing deparment? Now, he said...
Unfortunately, I don't know of any English language teachers or professors actually using this analogy in their classes. The common approach is much more complicated and involves mrmorizing a long list of cases when to use which article.
One more complication I forgot to mention ... The three forms are not the only forms of this word. They also differ not only based on gender but also number (singular, dual!!! and plural) and case (7 of them in Serbian: Nominative, Genetive, Dative, Accusative, Vocative, Instrumental and Locative).
--Aleksandar Šušnjar 21:54, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

In English we have this/these(near) and that/those (far). I figure the nominative form is the dictionary form, but which gender is the one listed in the dictionary? You might want to look at the Wikipedia article on demonstratives. AEuSoes1 22:37, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

"This/These" is different. That is yet another word (ovaj/ova/ovo). It's that Serbian has "this" + two forms of "that". I guess I could put it this way:
  • I carry this. - Ja nosim ovo.
  • You carry that1. - Ti nosiš to.
  • He carries that2. - On nosi ono.
It does not have to relate to the "person" this way. For example, in the imperative form you can easily say "You carry this", or one can say "I'll carry that" or "He'll carry this", etc.

[edit] Two people

Holy, can you tell me what you know (if anything) about the following two poets: Kosta Abrašević and Ratko Popovic. I can't find much information on them, so perhaps they are non-notables? Antidote 00:53, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Kosta Abrašević (Коста Абрашевић) (1879-1898) was a notable Serbian poet. Many institutions are named after him, so he is not "non-notable". [1] [2] [3]. I do seem to have trouble finding on-line info about him, not about varions institutions named after him...
  • Ratko Popović (Ратко Поповић) (born 1947) is a living Serbian poet [4] [5] [6]
Hope this helps, --Aleksandar Šušnjar 04:43, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimedia Canada

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. [edit] Tesla

Hi. I just wanted to aplogise for maybe being a bit abrupt and careless in some comments at NT recently. You wrote:

I guess you can consider me to be a "Teslaphile", but in this regard I agree with (re)moving various games, music and related stuff. I honor who and what Tesla was and believe relevant info should find its way in the article. Anything else, if worthy of mention, (e.g. institutions named after him) should be listed in separate articles or in dissambigation page. There are many "fairy stories" around Tesla. In fact so many of them that they may deserve a separate article just by themselves. Just don't know how to call it. Final note: the airport already exists - Belgrade airport and they seem to be in the process of naming it "Belgrade Nikola Tesla International Airport" (similar to Charles de Gaulle International Airport). --Aleksandar Šušnjar 21:36, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

& I replied:

Well, feel free to create Fairy stories about Tesla :-) William M. Connolley 18:41, 1 February 2006 (UTC).

I feel I should expand on that a bit. I agree with your honor who and what Tesla was and believe relevant info should find its way in the article (I mention that cos some people have accused me of being anti-Tesla; I'm not). But for one reason or another Tesla seems to attract somewhat eccentric folk, who insist on associating him with various dubious stuff. So there is a problem with removing the excess. Sorry if I sometimes go over the top. William M. Connolley 23:28, 14 February 2006 (UTC).

That's fine. I completely understand the situation as I also see it the same way. It appears that Tesla invented everything from time travel to ghost hunting equipment on top of his real inventions :)... --Aleksandar Šušnjar 23:39, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Schema.gif

Can you clarify the copyright status of the image? Fetofs Hello! 23:11, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

I don't really know how to classify it. The image represents the schematic diagram of Galaksija computer. The schematic itself, along with the rest of the computer is released to the public domain by its author. This rendition is downloaded from elsewhere on the net and represents a scanned part of the magazine ("Računari" and "Galaksija") page that was published (by "BIGZ" - I think it stood for Beogradski Izdavački Grafički Zavod - Belgrade Publishing and Graphical Institute) it in 1983. The image was created by the author of Galaksija. The magazine and its publishing company no longer exist. Since it was a company from the communist days of Yugoslavia it was "public property" that nobody purchased.

In any case, I am a friend of the author and will ask him to provide a higher quality rendition, if he has one... --Aleksandar Šušnjar 20:30, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Home-made PCBs

Thanks for the comment on my site. :) Its sad how neglected it's been. You're of course correct with respect to drawing with a top-down perspective, like you would be when using a PCB layout software. When you're literally drawing the bottom layer, you're drawing from underneath, so pinouts, etc. are reversed. And in order to transfer it to the copper correctly, you have to flip it so it transfers back correctly. It's the same if you were doing a 2-layer top-down, you need to flip the top-side before transferring.

Granted, drawing a board by hand instead of using PCB layout software is pretty ridiculous, but the article isn't meant for anyone who really knows what they're doing. :)

With all the free PCB layout packages out anymore, I really should go back and update that stuff to make more sense and be more productive. That article has been migrated pretty much content-change-free from several incarnations of my site over to course of about 5 years, it's probably about time!

[edit] Tvoja web stranica

[edit] List of Serbs

[edit] "Cyrillic" as a language

I am just a visitor here trying to learn more history... but I found that article uses term "Moldovan Cyrillic" as a language. Judging from what I know about Cyrillic and the rest of the article, the name of the alphabet should not be included in the name of the language as the means used to record the language does not affect it - e.g. there is no "Latin English" vs. "Magnetic tape English" vs. "DVD English".

Am I wrong here?

--Aleksandar Šušnjar 18:47, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

You remarked something very important. Is very true your remark. There isn't such thing maybe just in the mind of some old sovietic people. E.g. there is here user Mikkalai, you can ask him. He was acused by several users to be anti-romanian. I don't know if it is true, maybe he just asks for attention because of his age. Maybe he doesn't have a woman or family and this is his expression way. Still, he is the only one to support that lie. In fact, Romanian language and Moldovan language are identical. Try to convince him. You may be blocked for that for being accused as a sock of User:Bonaparte (his love).

In his mind there is Latin english, arab english and why not cyrillic english. Try to see his edits. Half of them made every day are Anti-Romanian edits. So much to tell about that old crazy guy.

This is sockpuppet of banned troll User:Bonaparte.
You remark about language taken into an account and the sentence is fixed, thank you. If you have any questions about the above rant, I am ready to answer. mikka (t) 20:26, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Wow... cool down all of you... I just remarked something very simple. I knew nothing of what was going in there and while reading the article I found something that doesn't fit well with my own first language and its alphabets. There are no two (alphabet-related) versions of Serbian although Serbian uses two alphabets (Cyrillic and Latin).

No hard feelings, OK?

Zdravo Aleksandre.

[edit] Beograd

[edit] Tajik + Farsi

Hey man, I threw together a Perso-Arabic -> Cyrillic transliterator. It works like crap at the moment, but have a play if you're interested [8]. Regards. - FrancisTyers 18:49, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, the characters you don't know can be seen here. The main problem is dealing with vowels, because Perso-Arabic tends not to write them, as you can probably tell from the text.
Farsi trans.
Tajik.
I'm thinking of building a wordlist and then trying to do some kind of edit distance operation, but just using vowels, to produce the full words. Btw, don't feel obliged to reply, its just good to have someone who has dealt with similar stuff to bounce ideas off :) - FrancisTyers 17:00, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Galaksija ROMs

I've proposed three of your articles for speedy deletion:

Before I did this, I merged most of the content of the articles into the main Galaksija article. What remains is merely the the ROM dumps which are unencyclopedic, the say the least, and are probably a copyright violation as well since they are almost certainly under a non-GFDL compatible license.

If you feel strongly that this should not happen, please go ahead and place the {{hangon}} tags on those pages and we can take this to a full Articles for Deletion process.

Otherwise, I suggest that you go through the text that I've pasted into the relevant parts of the Galaksija article to try to integrate my text a little better and remove redundant bits. Thanks! mako (talkcontribs) 15:05, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My edits to Lola 8 etc

As you can see I removed the binary prefixes (replaced KiB to KB) you used in your articles about lola 8, Pecom 64 and others, because they are articles about old systems and all the literature about them do not use this notaton. There is no consensus anymore for using the KiB notation in Wikipedia, especially for older system. However, the wikipedia manual of style WP:MOSNUM clearly suggests that I should refrain from "changing prefixes from one style to the other", and as you are the person who started the articles you are free to revert them back to the original notation if you so desire. But please read the comments page of WP:MOSNUM first. Mahjongg 10:36, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ventillator 202 - Zoran Modli.jpg. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ventillator 202 - Zoran Modli.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ventillator 202 - Zoran Modli.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 04:28, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Može li neka slobodnija licenc, neki GNU, Creative Commons? -- Bojan  07:15, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ћирилица - Latinica

Zdravo Aleksandre,

imam jedno pitanje, i mislim da ti mozda imas odgovor!

http://sr.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Поздрав —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.148.46.38 (talk) 04:09, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Rac1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Rac1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:06, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
