[edit] Premise

MySpace Events are discovered through different means by users of the online community MySpace. The shows are free, and are sponsored by different organizations. The events are announced publicly, with complete coverage, after the performance.

The MySpace Secret Shows events are sponsored by both the Chili's and Best Buy franchise, who feature the artists at their stores in the United States. Internationally, the shows are presented in seven different countries and involve different sponsors and artists.

MySpace Secret Standup shows have comedians working with charities, which encourage people at the show to donate to those charities.

MySpace Black Curtain Screenings are presented by their corresponding movies and are shown prior to their public release date. The events are used to heighten public awareness and interest in the film being screened.

Presented By: MySpace & Chili's in association with Best Buy, others internationaly
Website: http://www.myspace.com/secretshows
Latest Show: Paul Wall (04/03/07 Houston, TX)

MySpace Secret Shows (launched 01/29/06) are performances by popular artists and bands (usually with recent hits) at prominent clubs. They are, as the name suggests, secret in terms of the MySpace website. In order to find out about these performances, a MySpace user would need to add the Chili's and Secret Shows "users" to their MySpace profile. Once this is added, the MySpace user receives clues on the performances.

[edit] Performances

The shows, which are the only truly secret ones, are held for all ages with no charge, usually with a small audience. The bands featured are usually in the rock and hip-hop genres.

MySpace Secret Shows tour the United States, but are also in the U.K., Australia, Japan, Canada, France, and Germany. Each event is sponsored by companies, as shown by the Chili's and Best Buy endorsement in the U.S. The performances, which have been hailed as the most succesful MySpace franchise [1], were originally started to expose different bands to areas in United States, though the shows have since been made international.

MySpace Secret Standup (launched 03/26/07) are shows featuring well-known comedians, with a similar performance environment. They are not actually secret, contradicting their name, because they are announced a few days before the actual performance.

[edit] Performances

MySpace Secret Standup is also free, but require attendants to be 18 or older, with a valid I.D., and a copy of their MySpace Friends list. The comedian performing partners up with a charity. This is advertised at the time of the performance, and encourages fans to donate to the particular organization.

MySpace Black Curtain Screenings are films that are presented by MySpace and shown much before their release date. The shows are like Secret Standup in that the shows are not secret, but are announced publicly.

[edit] Performances

Like Secret Standup, to access these performances, a MySpace user would print out their MySpace profile with the MySpace Black Curtain Screenings "user" in their visible top friends list, and show this page at the doors of the event location for free entrance.

Unlike the other shows, they are shown in more than one location. An added incentive for MySpace users, the celebrities featured in the film being shown are sometimes present at the screenings. These events are shown in the United States and Australia.
