Anyone looking for a bad idea, see Adam Carr's proposal. The whole thing would over-regulate Wikipedia and make it into a regular encyclopedia. His User/Editor distinction is completely ridiculous. It suggests that people who have not been on Wikipedia for a long time do not have anything valuable to contribute and that only people who write perfectly can use Wikipedia. This would change Wikipedia extensively and for the worse. Alethiophile 15:44, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
I have lately seen a lot of MfDs of "fun" things, such as WikiPlomacy, World's Longest Poem, Coffee Lounge Games, and even all of Esperanza. Although, luckily, the Esperanza thing didn't go through, I have a problem with the rampant deletionism going on. In my opinion, if there is no community, there is no encyclopedia. Many "unencyclopedic" things have been deleted, with nominators and Delete voters brandishing policies like WP:NOT and WP:USER, which are completely and utterly superceded by the encyclopedic contributions, in the form of community building, that such pages provide. While I do think that Wikipedia shouldn't primarily become a social network or gaming site, I think that WP:NOT should be followed to the spirit, not the letter. I am an inclusionist, and I am satisfied with what Wikipedia is now. In my view, there is a deletionist culture on Wikipedia, with people giving each other barnstars for "stopping inclusionists", and rampant MfDing and AfDing of community-building projects and ideas. This must be stopped. If deletionists took over Wikipedia, they would find some excuse for deleting every page. AlethiophileAsk me why 03:24, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
