[edit] Why the French spelling?

Does anybody know why Alexander is spelled in French? The normal way of transliterating his Russian name would be as "Alexander" (or even "Aleksandr"). Do we have any information about which spelling he uses himself? Valentinian T / C 10:04, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

  • According to his UPenn page he is Alexandre. Soviet OVIR tend to gave people passports with French spellings. According to my Soviet Passport I am Alexandre as well Alex Bakharev 11:29, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
