Alexarchus

Alexarchus (Greek: Ἀλέξαρχος ca.350-290 BC) was an Ancient Macedonian scholar and officer, son of Antipater and brother of Cassander. He is mentioned as the founder of a utopian town called Ouranopolis (Sky-city), in Chalcidice. Here he is said to have introduced a number of neologisms, which, though very expressive, appear to have been regarded slang or pedantic.

He also sent a letter to Cassandreians : Alexarchos ho marmôn promois gathein.Tous heliokreis oiôn oida lipousa theôtôn ergôn kratêtoras.Morsimôi tychai kekyromenas theou pogais chytlôsantes autous kai phylakas origeneis ; and Athenaeus remarks: what that letter may mean I think that even the Pythian Apollo himself could hardly tell.

  • Literal translation : Alexarchus the bright to the (in front of) archontes to rejoice.I am aware that the sun-- ....lack...mortal fate...take bath in God's fountains and guards mountain-born.
