Alexandra Park railway station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alexandra Park railway station was a station on the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (MS&L) line from Manchester Central railway station via Chorlton-cum-Hardy railway station to Fairfield railway station and Guide Bridge railway station. It opened on 2 May 1892 and lay near the junction of Alexandra Road South with Mauldeth Road West. It served the Manchester suburbs of Whalley Range and Chorlton-cum-Hardy. From 1 August 1897 to 1 January 1923, the station was owned by the Great Central Railway. It was renamed by the London and North Eastern Railway as Wilbraham Road on 1 July 1923 to avoid possible confusion with the north London suburb of Alexandra Park. The renamed station was closed by British Railways on 7 July 1958.
