For the Slavic historian, see Alexander Soloviev (historian).
Alexander Soloviev (Александр Соловьёв), (1846–1879), was a former student who, on April 20, 1879, unsuccessfully attempted to assassinate Tsar Alexander II of Russia with a revolver. According to a footnote on page 61 of Vera Figner's autobiography, Memoirs of a Revolutionist, his shot missed because a peasant by the name of Komissarov saw the gun and deflected Soloviev's hand. [1]. The would-be assassin of the Tsar was hanged on May 28, 1879.
