Alex Brooks (born August 21, 1976) is an American defenceman for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin.
Undrafted and out of college, Brooks took his game to Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League. The devils, attracted to Brooks's tough, defensive play, signed the defenceman to a contract. Brooks's spent four years in the Devil's minor league affiliation, the Albany Riverrats. When veteran center Pascal Rheaume was traded, Brooks was named captain, and held that post even after the team relocated to Lowell,Mass. When several Devils were injured, including Colin White, Johnny Oduya, and Brad Lukowich, Brooks was called up,playing 19 games and scoring 1 assist to go along with 4 PIM. Then, in a game against the St.Louis Blues, Brooks broke his foot, and was subsequently sent back to Lowell, and was replaced by Andy Greene. He returened to Lowell and regained his post as captain. Andy Greene flourished, and thus, Brooks was left in Lowell. When the clock struck twelve on July 1st, 2007, Brooks became a free agent. On the ninth of August, Brooks signed on with the St.Louis Blues. His NHL chances depend on whether Roman Polak, Matt Walker, or Jeff Woywitka make the team. If not in the NHL, Brooks will provide a veteran presence in Peoria, the Blues minor league squad.
Rumours tell, that Alex Brooks has signed a contract to Finland, Sm-liiga. For Pelicans, Lahti.
