Alex Williams

Alex Williams (born November 1961 in Manchester) was an English football goalkeeper. A product of the Manchester City youth scheme, he made his first team debut in the 1980-81 season, becoming the first black goalkeeper to play in the top division of English football. Succeeding Joe Corrigan in the City goal, he made a total of 125 appearances in six years, including two consecutive seasons where he played every match. He later played for Queen of the South and Port Vale. He retired in 1986 following a back injury. As of 2006, he works for Manchester City's Football in the Community initiative.
