[edit] Character history

[edit] Before and in Erinsborough

Alex is introduced as the Belarusian father of Rachel and Zeke, both attending Erinsborough High. When he learns that ex-convict Paul Robinson is going to be teaching his children, he approaches Susan Smith and asks that she fire him. Susan refuses, so Alex threatens to take his children out of the school so he could home school them - he is a university professor, and his wife Francesca home-schools them.

[edit] Cancer

Alex is diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma, a rare acute idiopathic form of leukaemia, by Dr. Karl Kennedy, and is told he had only months to live. This makes him hesitant in wanting to propose to Susan, but he eventually does. While trying to accept that he is dying, he turns to Jonathan Verne - the same man that Steph Hoyland went to a few years before after her first diagnosis of breast cancer - for alternative treatments, until Jonathan is arrested by Stuart Parker and Alex is made aware of his past as a con artist.

[edit] Engagement

It was later discovered that Alex has an ulterior motive when he proposed to Susan; as much as he loves her, he is also "securing a mother" for his children when he died.

[edit] Remarriage and death

Shortly before marrying Susan, Rachel and Zeke find their estranged sister Katya. Alex and Katya get some stuff off their chest before the wedding. Within a couple of hours after the wedding, Alex dies with Susan at his side in Susan's loungeroom.
