Alex Horne (born 10 September 1978) is a British comedian. His act is a blend of sharp one-liners, sketches, quick-fire crowd engagement, puns and pseudo-surreal babbling.
Horne was educated at Lancing College (Fields House, 1991-1996).
Horne managed to secure his first gig on the comedy circuit by winning a 'Cracker Joke Writing Competition' whilst working as Deputy Head of Dairy at Budgens in Midhurst, West Sussex. Four years later he made his first appearance at the Edinburgh festival in 2000 with his show, "How To Avoid Huge Ships". His 2003 Edinburgh show, "Making Fish Laugh" was nominated for a Perrier newcomer award. In 2004 he won a Chortle Award for Best Breakthrough Act. His latest shows have been "When In Rome" and "Every Body Talks".
In July 2003, Horne attempted to break the world record for the number of bananas eaten in under three minutes, but failed, due to a technicality concerning the minimum qualifying size of the last banana.
Horne toured Roman towns of the UK with his "When In Rome" show in early 2006, joined by comedian Tim Key. The show featured unusually extensive use of Microsoft PowerPoint for a comic act.
He has met Ken Dodd three times and the current Pope once.
Most recently he has been working alongside fellow comedian Owen Powell, in the attempt to find a person from every nationality living in London. After a year's search, they finally managed to meet people from 189 of the UN's 192 countries whilst satisfactorily proving that there isn't actually anybody in the capital from Tuvalu, Palau or the Marshall Islands.
