[edit] Life and Work

His photographic interests are wide ranging, however conceptual and landscape photography can be considered his main concerns, as is evident from his most recent exhibitions.

[edit] Recurring themes

While best known for stark Black and White imagery, certain recurring themes and influences are present in Boyd's work. He has in a recent interview cited Gerhard Richter and Gottfried Helnwein as major influences as well as the photographic approach of Ansel Adams. In his work themes of German Militarism and a fascination with 1930's and 40's Germany are apparent, as are themes of urban decay as well as the social effects of architecture.

[edit] Film

In 2007 Boyd directed and created the short film 'Die Hasenjagd', an 11 minute short film, comprised of the animation of several thousand photographs. The film does not offer a linear narrative, however is concerned with a criticism of nationalism and concerns the 1945 Hasenjagd massacre in Celle Germany. A soundtrack was provided by pianist Mike Garson and Billy Corgan of band Smashing Pumpkins.
