[edit] Character history

An artist and biker with a somewhat anti-establishment image, Alex arrived in Summer Bay when he moved in with Shane and Angel Parrish as a lodger. He quickly noticed Shannon Reed, who as a writer had a similar artistic temperament, and did his best to charm her.At the time, Shannon was only just getting over recovering some repressed memories of being abused as a child and Alex was the first man she came to trust. The pair eventually consummated their relationship on the beach(and, judging by their appearance afterwards, in the sea). The new relationship wasn't entirely comfortable since Shannon had made a play for Shane some months previous but Alex was able to smooth things over between his new girlfriend and new landlords and even persuaded them to re-employ her as a childminder.

When Shannon and her friend Selina Roberts accepted help from a trucker named Saul Bennett, Alex was horrified since Saul was his estranged father and the leader of a cult known as the Children of Saul. The cult was aptly named since most of the members were children Saul had conceived with various women.Alex had endured a hellish childhood on the commune and also blamed Saul for his mother's suicide. He quickly realised Saul had become obsessed with Selina and tried to persuade her to stay away from him. When Selina came to her senses, Bennett kidnapped her.Alex came to her rescue before turning his father over to the police.

When Alex and Shannon were out hang-gliding, they came across a decades old crashed plane and the remains of its two occupants. They played a key role in tracking down Simon Broadhurst, whose grandmother was one of those killed.Their detectives skills came to the fore some months later when they discovered Simon, an English software millionaire, had paid off Angel's mortgage following Shane's death.

When Angel went into labour, Alex and Shannon attempted to drive her to the hospital but were driven back by a flood and nearly lost in the bush before getting her to the caravan park.Alex, along with Travis Nash, made himself scarce during the birth, leaving to help find a way across the swollen river.During the same incident, Shannon's foster father Michael Ross was killed.Possibly as a result of his relationship with his father, Alex was extremely dismissive of spiritual matters and his somewhat callous attitude in the aftermath won him few friends.

When Shannon's author friend Mandy Thomas, with whom she had an implictly romantic connection, arrived back in town, she was worried there would be trouble but in fact Alex and Mandy got along so well that she ended up being jealous. When Shannon and Mandy were both accused of copying each other's work, Alex was one of the few who learned the truth-that they had independently been inspired by a shared experience.

Alex and Shannon's habit of exploring saw them uncovering an old weapons dump.Alex ended up setting off an old grenade in his face and was temporarily blinded.Although his sight returned, he suffered minor brain damage that caused him to behave erratically, giving Selina a not entirely platonic kiss in front of Shannon. He became so unpredictable that he was briefly suspected of raping Chloe Richards.Things came to a head when he became distracted while helping Angel bathe baby Shane and nearly let her drown.Fortunately, he made a full recovery.

When Joey Rainbow, an old member of Saul's commune, arrived in town, it took Alex a surprisingly long time to realise he was also Saul's son and even longer to realise that made him his half-brother. Their differing attitudes towards Saul meant they clashed initially but they eventually bonded.

Eventually, Alex's art caused him to choose to move to Paris to pursue a career, even though it meant splitting with Shannon. Ironically, Shannon and Mandy also ended up moving there only a year later but whether or not they met up again is unknown.
