Alessandro Parisotti

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alessandro Parisotti (July 24, 1853 - April 4, 1913) was an Italian composer and renowned music editor.

Though primarily a composer, Parisotti is nowadays more known as the original editor of the "Arie antiche" collection (originally titled Arie antiche: ad una voce per canto e pianoforte, published 1890), which soon became famous and are the most commonly taught and performed arias in voice pedagogy. In this collection he included a piece of his own, Se tu m'ami, which he attributed to Giovanni Pergolesi - this piece is his only musical creation nowadays performed. It was also used in Igor Stravinsky's ballet, Pulcinella.
