Aleksey Apukhtin

Aleksey Nikolayevich Apukhtin (Russian: Алексей Николаевич Апухтин, 1840-1893) was a minor Russian poet and writer, prominent figure in the gay milieu of Saint Petersburg at his time. He was a lifelong friend of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (they were both educated at the School of Jurisprudence in St. Petersburg) and a lover of his brother Modest Tchaikovsky. Pyotr Tchaikovsky wrote music for six of his poems.

Aleksey Apukhtin died in 1893 of dropsy.
