Aleksander Babakov

Aleksander Babakov is a Russian politician and deputy speaker of the Duma, the Russian state parliament. He was the leader of Rodina, a political party in Russia, for several months in 2006 and organised a merger between his party and the Russian Party of Life and the Russian Pensioners' Party. He is a State Duma deputy and sits on the governing body of the party he helped found, Fair Russia. Between 2006 and 2007 he lead Fair Russia's faction in the Duma as the party leader, Sergei Mironov, served as speaker of the Federation Council of Russia.
Babakov was born on the 8th February 1963 in Kishinev, Moldova. He was elected to the Russian State Duma in 2003 and became party leader of Rodina in March 2006 following the surprise resignation of Dmitry Rogozin. He has extensive business interests in Eastern Ukraine and allegedly holds Russian, Swedish and Israeli citizenship.
He is married and has two children.
