Alejandro García Caturla

Alejandro García Caturla (1906-1940) was a Cuban composer of contemporary classical music. He was born in the town of Remedios, Cuba. He began composing at a young age, studying both music and law. Beginning in his youth, he was fascinated by Afro-Cuban rhythms and was heavily influenced by this in his compositions. He is best known for the Pastoral Lullaby or la "Berceuse Campesina," music which appeared in the film The Lost City. He was assassinated.
