[edit] Image:ABCIcon.gif tagging

I've retagged Image:ABCIcon.gif as {{tv-logo}} because it is an exact replica, if reduced in size, of Image:Abc-logo.jpg. Even if you self-make an image, if it is a copy of a copyrighted work it is still copyrighted. I can't take the logo for Coca Cola for example, create a hand made duplicate, and then use it however I like; the Coca Cola corporation would take me to court for violating their copyright. Since this image only qualifies for fair use, I've removed it from {{User:UBX/Australian Broadcasting Corporation}}. Please do not re-add the image. Thanks, --Durin 04:16, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, Durin, I didn't realise, as I made it from two separate elements (the actual waveform being from a different version of the logo). Would you be able to tell me how to add the other ABC Logo to {{User:UBX/Australian Broadcasting Corporation}}? Thanks in advance. --Cyvros 14:54, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

  • You can't. Logos of corporations, sports teams, etc. are copyrighted. Their use here is covered under fair use. The Wikimedia Foundation has stated a policy proscribing the use of fair use images outside of the main article namespace. Thus, using fair use images in userboxes is not permitted under Wikipedia policy. Sorry :( --Durin 15:21, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
    • Okay. Thanks for that, anyway. I don't really contribute to Wikipedia much, so I don't really know these rules. Thanks for clearing it up for me. --Cyvros 11:54, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:AbcnewsOLtitle.png

Thanks for uploading Image:AbcnewsOLtitle.png. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 14:04, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey

Hey Cyv it is Mike Beckham from MediaSpy, Any reason you blanked your user page? I hope your not leaving. - Mike Beckham 02:36, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey, Mike. I'm not. I just decided to take all the information and HORRIBLE amounts of graphics off - I'll probably put it back up soon enough. :D I didn't realise you were here (although almost everyone is these days :D). --Cyvros 12:57, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
I think if you are on MS you are required to edit here ;) - Mike Beckham 01:44, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, but I'm not. I just go there occasionally. It's hard to post regularly in a place when you despise it. --Cyvros 07:03, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Usurpation

Hi, you need to notifiy the account you wish to usurp by adding {{subst:usurp|Name_To_Usurp|Current_Name}} ~~~~ to their talkpage. WjBscribe 15:54, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Never mind, I've confirmed that its OK for me to notify them on your behalf and have left the message myself. WjBscribe 16:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay. Sorry - I didn't realise. Thanks, though. --Will alpha-test for food. 07:04, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:ABC_-_AM_Banner.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ABC_-_AM_Banner.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The Sunshine Man 16:10, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:ABCNewsOnline Banner.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:ABCNewsOnline Banner.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:50, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Majestic Fanfare

Hi Aldor. Under your former name Cyvros, you provided a lot of good information about the history of the ABC news signature tunes here. So that I can properly source some of this material for my new article Majestic Fanfare, can you tell me where you got it from? Cheers. -- JackofOz 05:29, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Jack. I can't actually say where I got all that information from specifically, because it accumulated over at least a couple of years. It was probably mostly from the ABC Annual Reports and websites, though. --Aldor 10:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
OK. Thanks. -- JackofOz 13:55, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Charles Williams, 'Majestic Fanfare'.ogg

Thanks for uploading Image:Charles Williams, 'Majestic Fanfare'.ogg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:32, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
