[edit] Plot
Lily is having trouble deciding what she wants to do with her life. She continues to discover new ideas, but cannot decide on any one particular thing. In the meantime, she is working at a Hawaiian restaurant. Ted offers her a job as a secretary at his architectural firm. Lily is put off by Ted's boss, that his designs are phallic, and that he is so condescending to Ted and the other employees. When Ted finds his boss's autographed baseball in Lily's desk, Lily admits to Ted that she has been taking things from his boss in order to teach him a lesson. She tells him that it is her own form of justice, and it is based on her experiences teaching kindergarten. Ted's boss is furious that his baseball is missing and threatens to fire three people a day until it is returned. Lily thinks that his threats are empty, and tells Ted that she will return the baseball if Ted shows his boss his re-design of the phallic skyscraper. Ted refuses, firing Lily instead. The next day, however, the firm's client turns down Ted's boss design because it looks like a penis. In order to keep the client from walking out, Ted presents his own design of the building. Ted's design is approved and he is credited with being the youngest guy to design a building taller than 70 stories...probably. Ted offers Lily her job back, but she tells him that she has realized her true calling is as a kindergarten teacher.
Marshall is upset with a particularly difficult professor at law school. She rarely gives good grades, and Marshall blames it on the fact that she divorced her husband over the summer and just needs to have sex. Barney, seeing this as a challenge, decides to help Marshall by seducing her. Barney is thrown for a loop when she gives his sexual performance a grade of C-. Barney sees her again, and she is still unimpressed. Barney's third attempt results in a dislocated hip. However, the sex was good enough that Marshall gets a B+ on his paper. Barney wants to try to get Marshall an A, but Marshall tells Barney that he doesn't have to continue, and that he's tried hard.

[edit] Cultural references
- At one point in the bar, Ted uses many colloquial sayings that are slang for penis or actions that involve the penis, to which Robin and Lily laugh, pointing out the connotation of Ted's words.
- When Marshall shows Barney his law professor's office, Barney evaluates the professor as if she is a wild animal on a nature program, similar to the Discovery Channel or a Steve Irwin program.
- Ted's boss has a baseball signed by Pete Rose, and even declares that Pete Rose's absence from the Baseball Hall of Fame is a travesty, even though Rose has since admitted to betting on the Cincinnati Reds many times when he was a manager.
- Barney says that, like John Mellencamp, he will get rid of the cougar once and for all (as Mellencamp was formerly known as John Cougar Mellencamp).
- Cougar describes a sexually mature woman who pursues relationships with younger men.
