[edit] About the school
As the school website says,
Alcester Grammar is a very successful, selective, rural, Grammar school, providing a variety of courses at both National Curriculum and post 16 levels. The school has a large VI form and offers one of the widest ranges of both 'A' and 'AS' levels in the country. The school sets out to provide a relaxed and constructive atmosphere, in which pupils are encouraged to develop their individual talents. Since it is a co-educational school, boys and girls are jointly involved in most aspects of school life. We have no doubt that co-education is a fitting preparation for life.
There are approximately 1000 students at the school and over 100 staff. The school takes in three forms of ~30 at Year 7, meaning that ~450 students are in years 7-11. The sixth form has over 500 students.
[edit] School Achievements
The school has Specialist Performing Arts College Status, along with many other awards. In their most recent OFSTED inspection, the school was described overall as "Outstanding", the highest grade a school can currently achieve on an inspection. A copy of the inspection report can be viewed on the school website.
[edit] Improvements
A multi-million pound sports hall was constructed during the summer of 2005. Many rooms elsewhere in the school have had new ceilings and been painted. The sports hall is used regularly for children's physical education lessons as well as whole school assembly meetings. The school has recently become a Science Specialist School due to the schools high scientific standards. The Sixth form section is currently undertaking a change due to a new Head of Sixth Form. Plans and construction for a new common room open to Year 12 and 13 are expected to be ready for the 2008/09 term.
