Alceo Galliera

Alceo Galliera (May 3, 1910 - April 21, 1996) was a distinguished Italian conductor and composer.

Galliera was born in Milan in 1910 and studied at the Milan Conservatory piano, organ, and composition.

Among the orchestras he conducted were the orchestra of Teatro alla Scala and the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome. He performed with Maria Callas in operas, as well as concerts with such greats as Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli and Dinu Lipatti. He also appeared at the Lucerne Festival where he conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Salzburg Festival with the Vienna Philharmonic.

His compositions include 'Scherzo-Tarantella' and 'The Wise Virgins and the Foolish Virgins'.
