I had left some portions of this untranslated because I was not sure how best to render them in English. I see that someone has now tried to do this. To be honest, I don't feel that this person understood the sentences any better than I did. For example, "A diferencia del Sr. Lucas o el Sr. Barredo, su expediente académico no presenta síntomas innecesariamente ajenos al ciclo de cinco años que entonces comportaba los estudios de Derecho," has been rendered as "Unlike Mr. Lucas or Mr. Barredo, his academic record doesn't present innecesarily different symptoms to the then standard five year civil law course." This looks to me to be little better than machine translation.

If someone can clean this all up, great; otherwise, I suspect that the best bet would still be for someone with native Spanish and good English to get back to the version where I had gone as far as I felt I could in translating and re-translate these portions. -- Jmabel | Talk 01:35, Jan 26, 2005 (UTC)

I don't know what the 'symptoms' sentence mean either in Spanish or English, being myself a native Spanish speaker. I'm retouching the article using the untranslated original. Someone definitely gave it the Babelfish treatment, to the point where it was actually easier to re-translate some paragraphs from scratch. I'm not a native speaker (and as an American, my Castilian ain't too great ;-) ) but this should be a bit closer to the original meaning.

What would be really nice is an English source to do some fact-checking against, but I wouldn't even know where to start looking.

Okay, the new version is up. Some sentences were ambiguous (for example, "La investidura como presidente tuvo lugar el 28 de junio en una sesión de la Asamblea regional en la que fue elegido") and I tried to keep those fairly literal. FYI, I believe S.E. stands for "Su Excelencia." I'm assuming that's referring to Gallardon, since the original author seemed to be quite a fan of his. csmorris

Well, I have added some information from the Spanish wikipedia article. Also, I took some liberties on re-checking the translation and slashing parts of the text that are left ambiguous to non-Spaniards. Hopefully the new organization meets the standards. Lrd1rocha 04:09, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

http://www.gallardon.es Added anonymously to the references section doesn't seem to me like a solidly reliable source—it's a bit of a hodgepodge—but it would probably make a decent external link. I don't think it was really used as a reference for anything, so I am changing its status.

From what I can tell on a quick read, it is an unofficial site covering Ruiz-Gallardón. It doesn't seem offhand to be coming from one particular place politically, but if there is more to this I'd appreciate if someone would comment, especially if it looks like the site is either boosterish or notably critical of its subject. - Jmabel | Talk 22:17, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Gallardón is well known as a progressive politician, which places him in the liberal wing of his conservative political party. During his administration Madrid began following the new same-sex marriage legislation approved by the national government.
