[edit] Overview

Albany Middle School offers band and an arts and drama program (with a yearly play) and a large sports program. Sports offered at the school include basketball, cross country, a championship-winning track and field team, wrestling, and volleyball. In the 2006-07 the 8th grade girls basketball team won the East Bay Regional championship. The school also offers a leadership program. Albany's test scores are among the top in the East Bay. The school teaches around 920 kids. The school is fairly well known for its volleyball teams. During the 2007-2008 school year, the school also had a Mathcounts team that won the chapter (regional) competition. They progressed to the state level competition at UC Davis. Of the eight original competitors (at the chapter level), five moved up: the team (David Ding, team captain; James Ren, Zian Liu, and Lawrence Kim), and an individual: Felix Yoon.

The school's principal is Robin Davis and vice principal is David Neumann. It's mascot is the cobra. The school colors are black and gold/yellow.

There is also a fairly large Library Media Center, with many computers available for usage.

[edit] Contervesires

The school opened in 1999 at its current location of 1259 Brighton Ave. Previously it was at 1000 Jackson St, where Ocean View Elementary School now is.

The school also suffers from crowding - staff is being constantly added, and there is an obvious lack of classrooms (the school has now invaded the adult school across the street for teaching space).
