Albany City School District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Albany City School District (also known as the City School District of Albany) is the public school district of Albany, New York. It has twelve elementary schools, three middle schools, one comprehensive high school, and several other institutions of various types serving nearly 10,000 students. The district's offices are located in Academy Park, across the street from the New York State Capitol. The current superintendent is Dr. Eva C. Joseph.[1] The district publishes a newsletter called Capital Education. In recent years, a number of new charter schools have opened in Albany, placing increasing financial pressure on the district. In 2006, the Albany City School District announced a partnership with the National Urban Alliance for Effective Education (NUA).

The Albany City School District spends an average of $9,227 per pupil and has a student to teacher ratio of 13.7 (the national averages are $6,058 and 15.9 respectively).[2]
