[edit] Welcome!

Hi, Alanmaher, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you enjoy the encyclopaedia and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ, plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.

[edit] Additional tips

Here are some extra tips to help you get around in Wikipedia:

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.

Good luck.

[edit] RE: E-mail

Sorry I took so long to reply to you. You can view all users on English Wikipedia who are native speakers of Hungarian at Category:User hu-N. Hope this helps. haz (user talk)e 08:58, 9 February 2006

[edit] Categorising

I can't really say if I agree with your proposal or not because I'm not well-informed enough about Britain etc., but I can tell you that the only way of changing things is adding the unnecessary categories to Wikipedia:Categories for deletion and then waiting for a community consensus. Sometimes a dictature is far more effective than democracy, but you can't really change this, can you? :P --Missmarple 05:13, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Herman of Carinthia

Sure, I'm glad to help. Here comes the approximate translation of the paragraph about Kur'an:

Herman began to translate the Kur'an in Latin around 1142 in Leon. He translated two tractates De generatione Muhamet et nutritura eius and Doctrina Muhamet and carried on translating Kur'an. The translation was completed in 1143 by his English friend Robert de Retina from Chester.

I hope it is clear now... if not, don't hesitate to ask :) --Missmarple 20:26, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About merging the 2 articles on Jesús Soto

You are absolutely right! Those two should be merged. Can you please provide a link to a "How to Merge Articles" reference? I'll gladly do it, after I master the technical details (for example, how to delete one of the two articles after the merger?). Regards, AVM 18:47, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bradford Cathedral

Since you're working on the bits about the cathedral both in its own article and in Bradford, please will you move the bulk of the material from the Bradford article to the Bradford Cathedral one? If nobody else does it I will myself when I get round to it, but ... ColinFine 23:20, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Autoblock of 212.69.225.141 lifted or expired.

Request handled by: HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 17:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I have changed the block on that IP to allow only existing accounts to edit from it. You should be able to edit now, let me know here if you cannot. Sorry for the trouble, the block was due to the IP you are/were using, not your behaviour directly. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 17:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Charlotte Rhead and Flickr

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edit(s) to Frederick Hurten Rhead, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thank you. You have made dozens of edits to this article, many just a minute apart and often just to delete a single word or inserting a single line. Thanks in advance, Oscar 03:06, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, Alan, I also believe that Charlotte Rhead needs some sort of image. Unfortunately, I can't find any photo of her on the Internet, nor are there any free photos of her works. I did discover photos of her works here and here. Unfortunately, these are tagged "non-commercial" so you or I would have to ask the photog Chris Bertram to change his designation on that/those photos.
Whaddya think? Oscar 04:04, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Hey, way to go! The photog, Chris Bertram, however does need to change the rights, specifically to Attribution-ShareAlike License or the plain Attribution License (see [2]). Although Wikipedia is not commercial, there might be downstream commercial users. Thanks for taking the trouble, Oscar 02:25, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Now that Chris Bertram has changed rights, I've uploaded what I thought were the two most interesting to Wikipedia Commons and inserted them into the article. It's too bad the plate one is at an angle, though. Your thoughts?? Oscar 03:38, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
By the way, I have photos of two large ceramics by Karl L. H. Müller, of the Union Porcelain Works in the U.S. There doesn't seem to be a suitable article here in Wikipedia for these images. Do you have any insight??

[edit] Leeds Town Hall

Thanks for editing the Leeds Town Hall article, mark 2. There was previously an article on this subject which was deleted as "copyvio" on 13 July. I've asked the deleter User:WikiLeon why, as I can't believe that an article which had been around and nominate for Good Article in Aug 06 would now be entirely copyvio, unless someone had over-written all the content with a chunk of copyright material. Do you know anything about the earlier page? It might be best not to put work into a new page right now until we get a reply from WikiLeon explaining what happened to the old page, as there must surely be good content there which can be replaced in the article. Thanks, PamD 13:04, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Minor edits

Hi, I noticed that you seem to be marking many of your edits as being minor edits. A few of the edits I looked at contain things like addition of content. Such edits should probably not be marked as minor. I hope you don't feel I'm being over-sensitive to the issue, but you should probably read over Help:Minor edit. Thanks! Iknowyourider (t c) 19:08, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wedgwood Institute

Great work, Alan! You had inadvertently give me the signal to set this article up when you made a red link in the Burslem School of Art article, so I thought I had better get it done. You have greatly improved the wording. thanks a lot, best wishes Peter morrell 19:47, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Villa Capra "La Rotonda" and the Palladian Villas template

Hi there - this template doesn't appear to be working quite right, if you look at this article. Perhaps you might want to tweak it before continuing to add it elsewhere. Just wanted to alert you to the problem before someone goes around removing your work. Risker (talk) 16:47, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] February 2008

Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Villa Capra "La Rotonda", as minor if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits (see Help:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.' Thank you. <3 bunny 18:39, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Villa Gazzotti Grimani

A tag has been placed on Villa Gazzotti Grimani requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Williamwade (talk) 19:43, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cannons (house)

Alan, I see you returned the favour at Cannons (house) - thank you so much. I harbour an ambition to get that article to featured article status one day but I think it going to be a long haul, would you have the time/inclination to help? Best regards, nancy (talk) 10:32, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Barbaro pages

Thank you for re-adding the legitmate info to them. I was hoping someone would do that after I started axing the hoaxers edits. Edward321 (talk) 23:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
