[edit] George Jones

Hey, you've been bumping George Jones up on my watchlist all day long. You've made some great improvements to that article. Keep up the great work! --TantalumTelluride 03:11, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

It looks like you know a lot about traditional country music. Would you like to take a look at the Cal Smith article I just created? --TantalumTelluride 15:25, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

I took a look at the Cal Smith article and gave it albums and a pictures of Cal. Hope that helps the article! Alakey2010 Monday, May 01, 2006 8:47 PM.

Thanks. The fair-use claim for the image is a little questionable (but I won't say anything if you won't). The image should be fine. The CMT.com source, on the other hand, is identical to the All Music Guide source that I had cited. Presumably CMT.com has permission to use the text on its site, but they don't do a very good job of acknowleging the original publication or passing on its copyright information. Anyway, Wikipedia won't be able to legally keep the exact text from CMT.com, since it is in fact copyrighted by the book's publisher. The source does provide some good information, though. And, of course, information yearns to be free. So, we can indeed use information from CMT.com if we present it in an original context and properly cite its source. For now, I'll keep the changes you made to the discography and the image, but I'm going to have to remove the copyrighted text. I don't want to give the impression that I'm trying to own the article. (I'm actually thrilled that someone else has found an interest in it.) However, we don't want to violate an copyright laws. Thanks. I hope you understand. --TantalumTelluride 02:37, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
  1. Glad you like my George Jones stuff! When I made my first edit to it in the summer of 2005 it was a very short article. And, of course, most of the new stuff has come from you -- keep up the great work! Hayford Peirce 18:57, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
  1. Thanks for all the song info, but I'm afraid that the formatting problems are beyond me. It would be just as much work to put in all the || and so forth, and move things around, as it will be to just type in the songs little by little. It's a little like trying to put into correct, and colloquial English, something that has been written in English by someone who speaks it well but doesn't write it perfectly. It's almost more work to make the corrections and rewrite his well-meaning but sometimes mysterious sentences than it would be to simply write the whole damn thing yourself. I just did this with the article on tarte flambée and it's very tedious.... Hayford Peirce 23:28, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Country Music

Hey! I'm trying to round up some volunteers to help kick off WikiProject Country Music. Please see the temporary project page for more information. I hope you're interested in signing up. --TantalumTelluride 00:19, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

I just signed up!!! Hope we can get more people to join! Alakey2010
Thanks! --TantalumTelluride 02:13, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, and thanks for the kind words about the George Jones page. I'll be through with putting the songs in one of these days. Then I'll take another look at the Country Project. As far as Hank Williams is concerned, I'm not much of an expert on him. I did put in some material a year or so ago, when the article was much shorter, and also did a little rewriting of it. I'll take another look at it, however, and see if there's anything I can add, although I doubt it. Hayford Peirce 01:17, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Johnny Paycheck

He's one of my favorites. I'm pretty busy with finals right now. I'll look at your edits sometime tomorrow afternoon (CDT) after my exams, and then I'll let you know what I think. Thanks! --TantalumTelluride 03:41, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Well I thank you so much! And I hope you do great on them finals! Alakey2010 6 May 2006 11:06 AM
Thanks. I think I did pretty well on my tests. I like how you've been linking years (such as [[1974|1974 in music]]). There are some more copyright problems with the changes you made to the Johnny PayCheck article, though. As soon as I get a chance, I'll clean it up a little. I'll try to keep as many of your changes as I can. Keep up the good work! --TantalumTelluride 21:52, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Super Hits (George Jones album)

Looks great! Be sure to put the source of the image (Image:George Jones Super Hits.jpg) on the image description page. If you got it from a website, the web address should be enough information. Since it is an album cover, it almost certainly qualifies as fair use. Thanks again. --TantalumTelluride 03:08, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image uploads

When you upload images, you just need to put the web address of the source on the image summary page. And if you know the copyright status, you can add the appropriate tag. If you're not sure about the copyright status, just list the source so that others can determine the copyright status. Most of the images that you have uploaded so far appear to be promotional photos and album covers, which qualify as fair use and can be kept on Wikipedia if you just supply the source information. It would be a shame to lose all of these images you've uploaded because they don't have sources. Let me know if you need help. Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 15:23, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Johnny PayCheck Update

I've removed the copyrighted text from the Johnny PayCheck article. Unfortunately, there isn't much information left in the article concerning the later part of his career. For example, there probably needs to be a little more information about his criminal record. It would be great if you could add some more to the article, but be sure that it's not copyrighted text. It's usually best to use your own words, because most websites are copyrighted and present information in an unencyclopedic tone. Don't worry about it if you don't have time to deal with it. I just thought I should let you know. Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 19:16, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Country Music

We're getting nowhere on the list of proposed wikiprojects. In fact, it looks like projects are usually more successful when they skip that stage in the process. The best way to get people to join topical projects seems to be tagging article talk pages with templates that say "This article is part of WikiProject [Whatever]." I've noticed that one of the most successful WikiProjects is the military history project, so I'm going to use it and some of the projects I've been working on as "role models" as I build up the country music project. Soon I will make some templates and then we can try to recruit some more members. --TantalumTelluride 19:24, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject

In case you haven't noticed yet, I've started a project page at Wikipedia:WikiProject Country Music. Be sure to put it and its talk page on your watchlist. --TantalumTelluride 01:15, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright problems

Unfortunately, your new article, T. Graham Brown, is a copyright violation. You can't keep copying copyrighted text from other websites. Instead, you should use reliable websites as sources and write Wikipedia articles in your own words. You can read Wikipedia:Copyrights for more information about Wikipedia's policy and the law.

I'm also concerned about some of your recent edits, such as those to the Richard Nixon article and User talk:NoPetrol. You might want to go back and reread those pages linked in the welcome message at the top of this page. Remember to do tests in the sandbox, always remain civil, and never make personal attacks.

Finally, I strongly encourage you to change the content of your user page. The lyrics are copyrighted, and they don't do much to help maintain an encyclopedia. Perhaps you could put up some information about the type of work you like to do on Wikipedia. For example, you could list some of your contributions. And if you know any other languages or have any other special abilities that might be helpful to other users, you could put that on your user page. Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 18:05, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Please note that I have also blanked the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash article and listed it as a copyright violation, since the entire text was copied verbatim from their bio at All Music Guide. If you would like to write a new article, please do so at a temporary subpage. Thanks. -Big Smooth 23:11, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Impersonation

I was looking through your contribs to see if you had added other copyrighted info, and I ran across your edits to Talk:Dave Matthews, specifically here where you sign your post as User:Bbatsell. Please note that impersonating other editors on Wikipedia is regarded (at the very least) as a severe violation of Wikiquette if not a personal attack, and could get you blocked or banned from editing if you continue. Please be sure to remain civil as mentioned by User:TantalumTelluride above, and sign your posts as your own. Thanks. -Big Smooth 23:54, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject NASCAR needs your help! We are in the process of forming our proposed standards which, when complete, will hopefully become a Wikipedia guideline. [edit] Please don't add commercial links

Please do not add commercial links (or links to your own private websites) to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. If you feel the link should be added to the article please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. [edit] George Jones videos

I don't know anything about the video scene but I do know that back in the years (mid-90s) when I occasionly watched what I think was the Nashville Network (when it played nothing but country videos) I saw a George Jones video of him singing "Walls Can Fall" and then a year or so later another video of "Honky Tonk Song". Should these be included in the list, or are these another kind of video? By the way, are these videos available for purchase to play at home? Hayford Peirce 18:27, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Buck O'Neil.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Buck O'Neil.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please stop removing information from Buck O'Neil page

You have twice removed the information and link that shows that Ted Radcliffe was older than Buck O'Neil when he played in the Northern League. Please explain why or stop removing accurate information. The Kansas City T-Bones were incorrect when they made the claim on Buck's behalf, and the link on the Schaumburg Flyers' page makes it clear that Radcliffe was 96 when he took the mound for them in a regulation game.Couillaud 03:53, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Consider yourself warned

While leaving a message on User talk:Hayford Peirce I noticed an extremely abusive and uncalled for message by you regarding alleged edits of a George Jones article. No one owns any of the articles on this encyclopedia, and if you not want your work edited, deleted, or altered, do not submit material here. 23skidoo 00:55, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Mike Douglas.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Mike Douglas.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Joabeach 03:11, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kenny Chesney

What is your problem with him? All you do is keep changing him from being country to pop or just music in general, are you trying to win a bet or something like that? [edit] Copyright problems with Image:Buck2006.jpg

An image that you uploaded, Image:Buck2006.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Mike 05:03, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

I listed this because on the sourced web site it is given as an AP photo. The licensing info on Wikipedia on the image page does not appear correct, and I doubt it can be claimed fair use. I'll leave it to the admins to decide whether or not it is.—Mike 22:32, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Hank Williams Jr.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Hank Williams Jr.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in its not being deleted. Thank you. Chowbok 20:09, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Please do not remove an IFD notice from an image. It is akin to vandalism. If you dispute the deletion, by all means add your argument to the images for deletion page, but the tag must stay on the image page until a decision is made. —Chowbok 23:59, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted page "Chris St. Clair"

A page you created, or image you uploaded, Chris St. Clair, has been deleted in accordance with our deletion policy. In particular, it meets the one or more criteria for speedy deletion; the relevant criterion is:

Unremarkable people, groups, companies and web content. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject.

Wikipedia has certain standards for inclusion that all articles must meet. Certain types of article must establish the notability of their subject by asserting its importance or significance. Additionally, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, content inappropriate for an encyclopedia, or content that would be more suited to somewhere else (such as a directory or social networking website) is not acceptable. See What Wikipedia is not for the relevant policy.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable notability guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content; it will be deleted again and may be protected from re-creation. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article. If you have any questions, please contact an administrator for assistance. Thank you – Gurch 01:56, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Mellencamp words&music.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Mellencamp words&music.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 02:47, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] George Jones hits

Hi, I've just asked an administrator who, as far as I know, has never had anything to do with the George Jones page to take a look at the header of the list of hits and to give us his opinion as to whether you or I are right about this matter. It's too trivial to fight about, but I'd like to see it done right. I will abide by any decision he makes about the matter. You can see what I wrote to him at User talk:Dpbsmith -- I think I outlined the situation in a NPOV manner but, of course, you can obviously add your own comments to what I wrote. Hayford Peirce 03:59, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

The Admin. has fixed the problem, as you've probably seen. Here's what he wrote to me on my Discussion page: "I took the problematic wording and placed it on its own line. It is needed, and it also links to a reference, so it should not be deleted. But it is a little cumbersome to have as a section header (and I believe WP:STYLE frowns upon having links in headers anyway). Let's see how this works."23skidoo 15:25, 9 December 2006 (UTC) Hayford Peirce 17:19, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

hello! We don't use abbreviations for U.S. states. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, we don't use abbrevioations in general, except under specific circumstances (see, for exdample, Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Acronyms and abbreviations. Secoondly, these abbreviations are obscure to most people outside North America (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (places)#States in the USA and Provinces of Canada). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Willie&Waylon.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Willie&Waylon.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Image:Country Music Icon George Jones.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Country Music Icon George Jones.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 05:28, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 16:39, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Do not remove the {{Replaceable fair use}} tag from images

Please, do not remove the {{Replaceable fair use}} tag from images, as you did here. This may be considered vandalism. Also, do not add the {{Rk}} tag to such image, as you did here, as it may also be interpreted as vandalism. If you disagree with the {{Replaceable fair use}} tag, you may dispute it by adding the {{Replaceable fair use disputed}} (while still not removing the other tags) and explain on the image talk page why do you believe it's not possible to create a free alternative for the image in question.

Let me know if you still have any doubts. Best regards, --Abu badali (talk) 16:50, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] George Jones

Just noticed you working on the George Jones article. I started doing some minor work on it myself yesterday. I mostly do cleanup (grammar, wikifying, punctuation, adding references, etc). I was planning on submitting this for a Good Aritcle nomination, or maybe going straight to FAC, after getting it into shape. It looks like you've done, and are doing, a great job on this article. By the way, I have a CD of Jones' live Louisanna Hayrid recordings, but I don't see it in the discography section. Do you know anything about it? I can't find my CD right now or I would add it myself.--William Thweatt Talk | Contribs 03:23, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Nicholas Giles

A tag has been placed on Nicholas Giles, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Seinfreak37 18:07, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:George Carlin Classic Gold.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:George Carlin Classic Gold.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:27, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Hankjrdoitindixie.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. [edit] Image:TGrahamBrown.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:TGrahamBrown.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:The highwaymen.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:The highwaymen.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 13:04, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:2005kfc.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:2005kfc.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:54, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:The one and only johnny cash.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:The one and only johnny cash.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:21, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mike Douglas.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Mike Douglas.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:20, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
