He is also a Liverpool fan, which taints/colours his commentry!

He has been accused of supporting or loathing various Premiership clubs but he denies it and I don't hear evidence. Choalbaton 19:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

im sure he is a liverpool fan.

Anyone who's ever listened to him knows that he is a Liverpool fan! That's like saying where's the evidence that Michael Jackson is black. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.46.157.9 (talk) 22:13, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

Funnily enough, most Liverpool fans who listen to him don't think he's a Liverpool fan. The Macc comment is plausible, since he lives/lived in Macc. I met him on Macc station once when he was on his way to a Palace game at Selhurst. Js farrar 19:04, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

It's surprising that some Liverpool fans don't see his loyalty to their club as he has always exaggerated their better moments and praised highly all their mediocre players. His dislike of Manchester United was evident many years before his feud with Ferguson.

Oh, I think you're right about his loyalty to Liverpool, but for entirely wrong reasons. He has often been very critical of Liverpool, particularly Houllier and strong criticism of players such as Heskey, Cisse, Riise... he has also been extremely complimentary towards United's style of football and players such as Scholes, Giggs, Rooney etc. Redmark68

Deleted "accusation" of paedophilia. Classy. Redmark68

Added some quotes, moved the more important racist comments criticism to the top of the controversy section, removed unqualified accusations of "obvious bias", added some background to the Ferguson feud, contextualised the Everton 'thinly veiled attack', and added a quote from a fellow broadcaster on Green's style and enthusiasm. Redmark68

Green's Liverpool bias has long since got to the stage where it taints all his commentaries (Liverpool games or not.) Writing about the Bolton criticism (he had praised their 'competitiveness' in matches against other top sides, but was fiercely critical of them applying the same ethic in a game against Liverpool) and the Everton and Manchester United issues without stating his evident bias (listen to any of his '6-0-6' shows) is distorting the picture by only describing a very small part of it. Green's defence of Liverpool - and all things Liverpool (his review of a very competitive and eventful 2005-06 season began with several minutes on why England fans were wrong to boo Peter Crouch [an issue long lost in insignificance by most football fans]) - is notoriously embarrassing. This is probably the most bias-tainted commentator on radio, simply reporting that he claims to have no allegiance in the Premier League does not give a fair reflection.

[edit] High profile bloopers

When Emile Heskey scored the fifth goal against Germany in England's 2001 World Cup qualifier Green uttered 'it's another goal for Liverpool' (since all three goal scorers were Liverpool players). The commentary was subsequently editted by the BBC and the BBC and no longer appears when 5Live play archive recording.

Hardly embarrassing, that was deliberate, and the fact was mentioned many times in all media for quite some time afterwards.--BadWolf42 16:11, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Another embarrassing moment came in the 2005 Champions League final. Just before half time Hernan Crespo put AC Milan 3-0 up at which point Green proclaimed 'AC Milan are the 2005 Champions League winners'. Liverpool subsequently came back to win the match on penalties. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.77.212.153 (talk) 15:38, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Opinions

I've edited the line "The subjects of Green's criticisms have famously included ... also Manchester United, who he hates", as this sounds awfully opinionated.Frediculous biggs (talk) 22:43, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm deleting the bit about him being a massive Liverpool fan. It's amusing how many different supporters think he's biased against their club, he's not, he simply is opinionated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.46.3.130 (talk) 12:16, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Let's knock this one on the head, shall we? Green is a good commentator, and always stimulates debate. But the guy IS a Liverpool fan. Two examples amongst many many many! I remember earlier in the year when the Big Four were all playing each other and he said that in his opinion the title was between Man Utd and Liverpool. It seeemed like a weird thing to say for any right minded pundit, but, with Green, was wholly consistent with all the warm words he has given to Liverpool over the years. Another, later in the season, when Man Utd beat Liverpool 3-0, the guy went on and on and on about Mascheranas being sent off and how referees ruin matches. Again, just a bit odd the way he did it... And I'm a Gillingham fan for my sins, so no axe to grind - but it does seem fairly obvious where his allegiances lie every time you listen to him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.112.31.73 (talk) 20:39, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
