From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kuwaiti ship Al-Hashemi-II is a very large dhow that sits next to the Radisson SAS Hotel in Kuwait. The Al-Hashemi-II is advertised as the "World's Largest Wooden Ship". The Al-Hashemi-II has a length of 83.7 meters (274.6 feet). Its bow is 18.5 meters wide. The Al-Hashemi-II sits on 6,000 square meters of land resulting from an ocean reclamation project.

The construction planning of the Al-Hashemi-II started in 1985, and actual construction began in 1997. The construction of the ship cost more than 30 million dollars through 2001. It is used as a museum and restaurant and will never be put to sea.[1] There is a large parking area under the concrete slab on which the Al-Hashemi-II sits. It is entered in the Guinness Book of World Records.[2]
