Al-Hama

Hama is a different city in Syria.

Al-Hama الهامة(also spelled Alhama, Alhame, Elhama, Elhame or alhameh) is a small village in Syria west of Damascus on the Barada River. The town was the target of repeated raids and attacks by the Israeli military[1], [2], [3], [4],[5] , especially prior to the destruction of an early PLO training camp located on the town's outskirts. One of the more notable attacks occurred during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War; Israel fighter jets attacked a power plant that was in the middle of the town, destroying it completely and killing 87 people.

In the summer of the year 2007 icelandic graffiti artists Delo,Meth and Seo visited the town and marked a couple of buildings with tags and got arrested. They were sentenced to 5 years in prison and were set to be free in the year 2012. Internationally known as the "3 Brothas from Al-Hama" the trio got international fame after CNN covered their story. In Early 2008 Delo and Meth died from hiv infection in the prison. Seo is still serving his time.

The name of the town preserves the name of nearby archeological site Hamat Gader.
