Image of Nirma logo

Hi, I was thinking of adding an infobox kind of like what other universities have, for e.g., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BITS_Pilani or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Institute_of_Technology%2C_Kharagpur

The logo on Nirma's website is not very clear and I was hoping to put up something that would show everything clearly. Would you have time to take a good photograph of the Nirma logo the next time you are at Nirma? Or better, could you ask the administrators at college to give you a a nice copy of the logo which could be scanned and would be of the highest quality.

Thanks User:Gnikhil

Languages

Hi There! Can you translate my name in what language you know please, and then post it Here. I would be very grateful if you do (if you know another language apart from English and the ones on my userpage please feel free to post it on) P.S. all th translations are in alpahbetical order so when you add one please put it in alpahbetical order according to the language. Ahmedabad FAC

Yo aksi - what is your assessment? When do you want to go for FAC? I've added some books as "Further reading," but the main references are reliable and good. Rama's arrow - this Fire burns always 19:08, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Ask Ambuj to have a look, specifically if there is a need for more references. If he's ok with it, then go for it. Rama's arrow 03:44, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Handholding new users

Good to see your work in this regard, deleted the duplicate image. I guess you need to stand for adminship sometime soon so as to not bug admins ;). hv been busy of late, guess it wd remain so till the end of next month. All the best for FAC. --Gurubrahma 06:36, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Ahmedabad FAC & stuff

Hi aksi, I couldn't help eavsdropping on your conversation with Guruji :P BTW I've deleted the Torrent image. So when are you planning to put Ahmedabad for FAC? Can I help in any way? Cheers --Srikeit (Talk | Email) 06:37, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi aksi,
I have done a round of copyedit and the article looks nearly there. I have raised some issues (using comments). Try to address them. Once it is finished, I believe it would be ready for FAC. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:44, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay I'll do an error check. Also I was wondering if you require any more images for the article. I haven't used my camera for a long time & am itching to do so ;) --Srikeit (Talk | Email) 06:47, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

I've uploaded the following images of the Shreyas Flyover to commons

Please select the ones you want. I've gotta leave now so see you tommorow. Cheers --Srikeit (Talk | Email) 12:32, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi aksi,

I think the article looks good enough now. You can go for the FAC. Any objections raised can be handled then and there. I hope there is no issue of comprehensiveness, which can sometimes be a pain to fix in such a short duration. So what are you waiting for. Go for it. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 14:07, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi,

Looks like you are in need of some help with citation templates. I am giving suggestions how to proceed. Copy the whole template from Template:Cite news. The author's name, etc. will be provided at the top of the news. So also you will find the date. If some news source doesn't mention dates, yo can go to "Tools --> Page Info" in Firefox to see when it was published. This is particularly helpful for cite web template. In the "works" section, you may include details like being a part of some special edition, though this is not always applicable. If language is English, leave the field. If its from some printed newspaper, you should also mention the page number in "pages". Hope this is sufficient. Ask for my help if you find any problems. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 15:24, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

I got here late - have you already fixed Sandy's points? Rama's arrow 17:17, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
They look perfect now. Report back at the FAC. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:26, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi aksi, I too agree I should have uploaded my previous photos to commons, these however are uploaded to commons [1] & I will continue to do so in the future. Great to see the FAC up & already looking promising. I think I'll wait for some more improvement suggestions to come before I add my support. Cheers --Srikeit (Talk | Email) 18:46, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi aksi - sorry for the delayed response, just logged on. The comment on "choppy prose" means the presence of awkward and poor grammar, too long/short sentences. I don't think the problem is serious, and I will give the article a thorough copyedit right now. Consider asking user:Tony1 or user:SandyGeorgia to revise the article - they're among the best. Rama's arrow 15:45, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi aksi - Sukh and Sundar have done more copyedits, and I'll be giving the article a thorough cleaning today. That should resolve outstanding issues. Rama's arrow 13:25, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know - would definitely have missed it. Yes I too think that the prose is fine, but will give it a harder look very soon. Rama's arrow 13:44, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes that's good! Carry on! Rama's arrow 14:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Aksi great,

Thanks for your quick response on the Hindi city name topic.

From there, I followed links to your user pages and your contributions on Wikipedia. Keep up the very good work, especially on the anti-vandalism front! Gajamukhu 08:02, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Oops

Hello, I think you may have messed up a welcome message to User talk:Herr.Schultze. The reason I noticed was you had put {{helpme}} into the page without the <nowiki> tag. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 14:16, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

User:Herr.Schultze

I'm don't think the way forward is to delete it, as then that deletion will always be there in the history of the page, and it looks worse than keeping the honest mistake visibly on record. If he wants it deleted, I will, but it's blank anyway now, so it's fairly academic. I can't see it as any big deal. Let me know if you disagree.Tyrenius 14:19, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

I see someone's done it for you anyway! I think that looks odd, but there you go.

Re. my RfA, I waited 3 months like you said, and then you didn't show up! :) Tyrenius 14:23, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

That was good going — 2 mistakes on a welcome message! lol. Anyway, it was good advice you gave on the RfA, and it worked, so thanks for that. Tyrenius 14:26, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Statistically I think the people who make the most mistakes will be the people who do the most work! It was a satisfying RfA. Heavens, I'm speaking to someone in India! Just like that. Tyrenius 14:39, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

If I had time. I'll take a peek. London at the moment. It was on my user page, but I see I've removed it. Tyrenius 14:49, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Use the same figures

In my opinion, if you use the same figures throughout the article, that will lead to less confusion. If not you can rephrase the first line like this with a current population of more than 52 lakhs (5.2 million)Doctor Bruno 18:50, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Looks Good. While you were modifying the demography section, I did a minor edit to the first line. Please Check and tell Doctor Bruno 18:59, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I added that word because I was not aware that you will be giving an explanation in the demography. As of now, since the explanation in demography is sufficient and clear, the current may be removedDoctor Bruno 19:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

My botched AfD

I look forward to helping to serve all of you, and the project. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with. -Goldom ‽‽‽ 04:45, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

FAC

Hi aksi - (I can't comment on Syed, Ambedkar at the moment) Raul I believe is busy with Wikimania. I don't know why he promoted Satyajit Ray before Ahmedabad and Darjeeling (I think Tony's comments had not been addressed at the time), but don't worry. I suggest you wait for 1-2 days more, and then ask Raul. Rama's arrow 14:06, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Adi Shankara was also not promoted, despite unanimous support. Rama's arrow 14:09, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry, its not that he will reject the eventual promotion. Go ahead and ask him now, no point in delaying if he's back. Rama's arrow 14:12, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

special relativity - non technical introduction article

Hi, it looks like, there is a very little interest to provide a non-technical intro to SR. I've clearly failed to start a dicussion about the quality of the current "intro" article and its replacement with an easy to read stuff for newcomers. And I must admit, that I'm rather disappointed about that.

As I agree, that there shouldn't be duplicate articles on the same topic, please proceed with the deletion. I would personally prefer to delete the current intro, which I have very strong objections against, but I understand, that a lot of people spent time on that, they believe it provides the introduction to SR and they are going to defend it. And even from my point of view it would be a kind of vandalism.

If only the people, who will try to read the current "introduction", would join the discussion and give their opinion. But I think that they simply find another source.--Herr.Schultze 17:17, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

IST

Thans for the suggestions but the image does not help the article too much. I've added a cropped image of the CIA world time zones instead. IST is now listed on FAC. Rgds, =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:03, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.
