Nirma University of Science & Technology

Hi Aksi,

How have you been? I hope Nirma isn't stressing you out? Speaking of which I just added an image to the article (pretty good photo considering I took it from a moving car). Although why is the article so small? Considering your contributions to the Loyola article I thought that you would have expanded this article quite a bit. Anyway if you need any help in expanding the article, tell me about it. Also I would like to know your opinion about the image.

Cheers

All the Best for your exams. Convey the same to Siddharth if you meet him. As you might have seen on my page I'm currently (or atleast supposed to be) on a wikibreak. Apparently my efforts to stay away from Wikipedia are in vain as I'm surfing till closing time @ a Reliance Webworld. Good Luck trying to stay away from Wikipedia during your exams!

Cheers

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Ahmedabad

Hi Aksi - I'll help as much as possible. I've sent my pics to be developed. Ahmedabad's biggest asset is the openness, the presence of bungalows (as opposed to a world of flats!) and a nice winter. Admitedly there is a lot of pollution, and I hope that the present expansion and development is being properly planned. I find a lot more room for individual peace in Ahmedabad than Bombay. I was so pleasantly surprised when I found many streets empty on a Sunday afternoon - badha dhokla ane shrikhand khaiyene onghtha tha. Is that possible in Bombay?

Plus, there is no interfering in Wikipedia. Feel free to read and chip into conversations - we're all colleagues and friends. Rama's Arrow 17:19, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi Aksi - thanks for your compliments. I hope to do a lot of Gujarat-related work in the coming weeks, and I look forward to your return so we can work together. I'm experienced in taking exams in India, so I know how tense and important this will be for you guys. My thoughts and support is with you - All the best! Rama's Arrow 16:39, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for supporting me in my RfA. I really didn't think people appreciate my work here that much, but it's nice to see you do: my Request was closed with 66 supports and 4 opposes. I'll do my best not to turn your confidence down. If in any point in the future you get the feeling I'm doing something wrong, do not hesitate to drop me a line. --Dijxtra 11:56, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Help required

Could you help me in expanding and NPOVing the Narendra Modi article. I have made quite a few changes and additions. I'd also like you to see on IRC. Download a client like xchat or mIRC and get connected to the freenode.org server. India related discussions generally take place in the #wikipedia-in channel. --Andy123(talk) 16:42, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. Now all right

Hello, Now I am all right. I am pasting a message below explaining my absence. Best regards.

"My dear friends, I regret that I could not notify you about my absence. Actually, I fell sick suddenly on the morning of 3rd April 2006, and was confined to bed and was not allowed Internet access. Now, I am more or less in "shape". The problem was very serious infection. I missed wikipedia and wikipedians for three long weeks, and I feel really sad… for first few days, I even dreamt of wikipedia! I think that in next few days, my wiki-life shall become normal. I thank you for the concern and care, I know wikipedians are the most active virtual community, and Wikipedia is Better than the Best." --Bhadani 10:21, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

you seem to know about native terms for the districts. Can you add something to Districts of India#Naming? hopefully with time we get a good solution in the upper-lower case discussion. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 16:39, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Re the whole de-bureaucrating thing

Hi, I never came to thank you for the message you left for me a month ago when I stepped down from being a bureaucrat. Thank you for the things you said, it's good to know there are still plenty of good people about in this project. I do not see myself standing for bureaucrat again anytime soon though who knows what the future may bring! Thank you once again. -- Francs2000 09:38, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

RE: Licences

To answer your question:

  1. Yes, you can put it up under PD. A recent photograph/scan of another (long-dead) person's artwork does not qualify as copyrighted, since it's not the photographer's work. I've uploaded this image: Image:Fort St. George, Chennai.jpg in commons:. It's the most appropriate licence for old artwork.
  2. You want a locator map or city map? I suggest the svg filetype. You could probable ask user:Miljoshi to draw one.
  3. Architecture under the =Culture= section. For a detail article make a new page titled Architecture of Ahmedabad and link.

Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:04, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

graphic

This image Image:AMCstructure.jpg is a little tacky, and I suggest you have it done up. Use Inkscape to draw an svg image and use a bright colour like we've used for the Economy of India. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:50, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

A welcome back drink for you!

Hi Aksi, Good to see you back! Finally the great Aksi has returned! So how were the exams? Remembering your academic record from school, you probably aced it. Anyway as you can see my RFA is turning out to be a very close call (damn supermajority!). BTW thanks for your strong support support & kind comments. Still have 5 days left though, so gotta wait & watch. Anyway now that you've got time on your hands, I suppose you will be around here more often.

Ahmedabad

Yes, I will try to do whatever I am able to do. In a day or two, I shall post my message/ comments in this respect. And, how are you? --Bhadani 12:19, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

I am sure that you shall get excellent results. I wish you all the best! And, ditto for Ahmedabad - this should get FA status if you strive a little. --Bhadani 12:40, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
I think we must first to strive to make Ahmedabad a GA & an Indian selected article. These will help the article get enough review & recognition to get FA status. An example of this is the Indian cricket team which I am involved in & which recently got selected as a good article & is now being peer reviewed. A essential stepping stone for this is creating all the sections mentioned in the guidelines provided in Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian cities. Also I think we will need a few more good & relevant photos.
What do you think?
Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 14:06, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

I've found some issues with the article. I'm busy with my locator maps, so will review only after I finish them. Request you to be patient and put the article on Peer review first. I'll get around to putting up the images in commons: during the course of this week. As for FARC India, those guys manning the page are doing a pathetic job. Feel free to delist it yourself. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:57, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Ahmedabad

Yo - go for the PR. There needs to be considerable expansion of the article, with suitable forks on economy, demographics, transport, infrastructure. I've created a topics template - needs improvement so please look over it. Rama's Arrow 21:55, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

I'd noticed the PR and have listed some of my comments. Cheers! =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:19, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the compliment :) I just skimmed the article and listed what was missing or glaring errors. A deep review would mean understanding the text, checking the length, grammar, flow, comprehensiveness, if images are appropriate, references formatted correctly, all contentious statements sourced. :D PS Hopefully by the time this goes to FAC, we'll have a new infobox and an SVG locator map. (We're working on it) See the temporary locator image for Mumbai. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:49, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
Stressbusters
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.
