[edit] Discography deletions

I removed these items from the discography until they can be verified. The first one, I found on the internet but there was no mention of Sarin's involvement. The rest I could not find listings of at all; most pointed back to one of his three Wikipedia pages. Also, the way the discography appeared on the page was very confusing, so I had to guess at some of this. I'm assuming all the entries with "(feat. ---)" are songs, not albums, and the rest are full albums? Or are some of those compilations? And of the songs, who is the credited artist? (Akshai Sarin? DJ A/X? etc.) If someone can please straighten this out (with references from reliable sources, that'd be great.

  • The Gita (2003, Punarnava)
  • Spliffy & The Winter Ade soundtrack (1999, label?)
  • Bird Song soundtrack (2006, Rebirth Records)
  • "Reborn" (feat. Greenissimo) (2007, Indian Electronica)
  • "Waqt" (feat. Teji) (2007, Rebirth Records)
  • "Walk on Water" (feat. Kitchie Nadal) (not yet released, no label)
  • "Tandava" (feat. Critikal & Awasthi) (not yet released, no label)

Soundscapes was available on CD as well, my friends own it. Pinoyle

Soundscapes is listed in the discography under albums. Precious Roy 13:07, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
But I forgot to ask, what label released it? Precious Roy 15:22, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Searching Google for soundscapes "rebirth of dub" and CD only turn up a handful of hits, none about a Soundscapes CD. I commented out the CD mention in the article until it's verified. Precious Roy 15:48, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
mp3.com (label) physical release. copyright however owned by artist themselves. Pinoyle 16:19, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Note: since Sarin is a music producer - his work on Ultimate Aha would not be termed as "collaboration", it would be filed as his album. It is similar to Akshai Sarin (vocals, composition, arrangement, etc) featuring Poonam Sareen (vocals)Vhaldo

According to this site, the credits are "co-ordinated & produced by Ms. Vandana Sarin, concept & content by Ms.Poonam Sareen, and Music by Mr. Akshai Sarin." Until another verifiable source shows otherwise, I'm moving it back to collaborations. Precious Roy 14:23, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Laptop-jams

Checking the website makes it look like performing with Laptop-jams is acutally open to anyone who shows up with a laptop. Can anyone verify this?

don't know exactly. perhaps. why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinoyle (talk • contribs) 16:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
There's a pretty big difference between being in a band that's invited to play a music festival, and participating in an art project that's open to any member of the public who shows up (despite how cool that project might be). Precious Roy 17:17, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
perhaps thats the point of an art project..to involve participants in the festival? contact the artist himself? remove the word "collaborate" to be safe..—Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinoyle (talk • contribs) 17:32, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm not commenting on the quality of the Laptop-jams project—in fact, it sounds really interesting. My problem is the way it was written into the article made it sound like a) Laptop-jams was a band and b) that band collaborated with those other major artists. Apparently neither of those things is true. Precious Roy 17:41, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
well then go ahead and remove "collaborate" from it.. going by your previous (rude) comments on the musician's credibility.. you will end up doing whatever you want in anycase :) perhaps you should turn your attention to some more poor "struggling" bands from the third world like jalebee cartel who recently got on wikipedia and ask them for a 100 citations :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinoyle (talk • contribs) 17:50, 23 July 2007
Whoa whoa whoa! "Rude comments?" About whose credibility? Sarin's? I haven't said one rude thing about him. (Actually, I'm pretty sure I haven't said one rude thing, period.) I'm only trying to figure out what parts of the article are credible. There has been so much duplicitous wording in it, it's hard to tell. Thanks for pointing out that Jalebee Cartel article, there's a bit of puffery going on there, too. See, the thing is, Wikipedia is not a place for promoting one's band, there's MySpace and dozens of other sites for that. There should most definitely be information about notable bands here, but articles that glorify rather than inform, are unencyclopedic and need to be fixed. And articles that inflate the importance of the artist may need to be removed. Precious Roy 18:06, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
"claims of notability, artist fails WP:MUSIC. Most of his references are either trivial coverage, or not from reliable sources." .. hehe poor guy's pretty obviously known in india (perhaps theyre not as google friendly?);) .. i found a mention of an australia tour too.. my logic is - why would someone who has played at ministry of sound and got major label releases, newspaper articles etc concoct a story about a single performance in edinburgh of all places?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinoyle (talk • contribs) 18:26, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Unflattering, maybe, but certainly not "rude". And is he really "obviously" well-known in India? Other than the conveniently unverifiable articles in the Mumbai Mirror, Indian Express, Deccan Chronicle + Time Out New Delhi, he doesn't seem to get extensive coverage. There's one short (about 2 paragraphs) blurb in The Times of India. The only other Indian "coverage" that's viewable is a "things to do"-type column in The Hindu about a fashion show where Sarin's mention is limited to "There will be music by DJ Akshai Sarin and other entertainment." If that's not "trivial coverage", I don't know what is. And if you found online coverage of an Australian tour, please add the reference to the article. Regarding your comment "why would someone who has played at ministry of sound and got major label releases, newspaper articles etc concoct a story about a single performance in edinburgh of all places?": I never said he did—Axyzmusic did. Why that editor did it, I can't say for sure. The article was written from the start to make Sarin appear far more important than he actually is. That's not to denigrate what he's done, nor what he, in all certainty, will do in the future. I stand by what I said in the nomination—Sarin does not appear meet any of the criteria set forth in WP:MUSIC, and no amount of puffery or fudging of facts will make me think otherwise (unless of course someone can turn up some verifiable references from reliable sources. With all the coverage the Asian Underground was getting when it was most in vogue, he never got any coverage in any of the UK DJ magazines like Select or Jockey Slut or DJ? I find that odd, because those mags went pretty deep with their coverage. Precious Roy 20:01, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
precisely. because he was in school then, and the awareness just simply wasnt there in india. mention talvin singh to the average indian and he'll look at you quizically.. mention kaal or k3g..and see his face light up haha! here's something i found on his australia-new zealand tour http://www.karmaclub.com.au/images/ax.jpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinoyle (talk • contribs) 21:14, 23 July 2007

[edit] Indian Electronica CD

Was this actually released commercially? I can see they're offering it for sale on their website but I can't seem to find it anywhere else (other online stores). Precious Roy (talk) 17:17, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
