[edit] Concept & Creation

When Oh! great first designed Akito, he was asked various things about the character, including the color of his hair. He finally said, after a fan contest on who their favorite character was, that his height was 4'7", his weight was 84 lbs., his blood type was AB, and his hair color was deep blue.[1] However, the anime gives a slight tone to his hair, making it look navy blue.

[edit] History

Not much is known about Akito's history, except he was the original Fang King of the Bloody Road. He enjoyed riding Air Trecks for fun, but realized his older brother, Kaito, was only using him for violent purposes to further the Wind SWAT team's agenda. After his revelation, Kaito began forcing Akito to do his bidding by taking away his freedom. In desperation, Akito created a violent alter-ego named Agito to ride for him and take his place in the Wind SWAT team. Since Agito took over for him, Akito has become much less experienced at riding Air Trecks.

[edit] Character & Personality

[edit] Akito Wanijima

Akito Wanijima is an innocent, cute and cheerful boy who has a split-personality. Akito tends to use honorifics on most people, but not everyone. When the eye patch is covering his right eye, he is in dominance of the body. He also has a child like affection towards Ikki. Such as the event of when he wanted to join Ikki in the bath, Ikki didn't mind. Since Akito is so innocent, Ikki accepts this, since Akito won't realize the awkwardness.[2]

Ikki eventually shows him the meaning of freedom by telling him the story of a frog that yearned for the sky.[2] Moved by this, Akito kisses Ikki and develops a crush on him. Ikki 'rescues' Akito, and even though reluctant at first, lets him stay at his house. Akito now lives with Ikki and the Noyamano sisters, and attends Higashi Junior High School.[3] He then becomes one of the five founding members of Kogarasumaru.[3] He apparently likes to cross-dress, to the chagrin of Agito. Because Agito is the Fang King, and possesses the Fang Regalia, Agito also happens to have his own personal tuner: Akito, who apparently is fairly skilled in this area, in addition to being able to hear Agito's inner sounds because they share the same body. In later chapters, it has been shown that even Akito has a dark side of his own, becoming jealous to the point of scaring Kururu when she gets too close to Ikki. Agito also noted that an angry Akito is even scarier than himself. During Chapter 193 it's revealed that Akito has a third personality.

[edit] Agito Wanijima

Agito Wanijima("dark" side)
Agito Wanijima("dark" side)

'Agito Wanijima is Akito's 'dark' half. When the eye patch is covering the left eye, he is in dominance of the body. Because of his violent and bloodthirsty behavior, he is often characterized as a shark. He tends to swear a lot, and not even adding honorifics to any of the people he meets. He uses the four hooks dangling from the straps on his legs to battle and tear people apart.[2] After Akito is 'rescued' by Ikki, Agito becomes an unwilling member of Kogarasumaru. Agito is an A-class A-T user and also the current Fang King, making him one of the most valuable members (and powerhouses) of Kogarasumaru.[3]

Out of the group (of Kogarasumaru), Agito has the most knowledge about the world of Air Treck in general. Even though he has a rude and arrogant attitude towards his teammates, he respects them as comrades, but still keeps up his uncaring behavior. He cares deeply for Akito, and his only desire is to protect him. It should also be noted that, if the eye patch is taken off and Agito is in control, he gains much more power with the help of Akito. Because of this, he is able to unleash a "Leviathan" fang without a regalia. He is currently the Fang King of the Bloody Road. But he has a weakness: his weak body. He can't rely on his fangs too much or he will pass out, which is why he has to rely on other techniques. He cannot carry Nakayama as easily as Orca, which makes him question how he was made.

[edit] Lind Wanijima

Lindo Wanijima (鰐島 凜鱗人 Wanijima Rind?) is the third to be introduced, though he claims to be the original personality of their body. Lind is the strongest shown thus far in a fight, as he was able to take control away from Agito and utilize the same body in a manner none of them had ever seen before, dealing serious damage to Orca of Genesis with little effort shown. He has a X-like variation of the cross found in the gravity children's eyes, which Orca states is indicative of a "brain charger", a regular rider who's been altered in the same way as the Gravity Children through enormous amounts of money and technology.

During his short introductory appearance (chapters 190-197) Lind seems more mature, masculine, and level-headed than either Akito or Agito. He refers to the other two as "babies," looking down on their immaturity, and failing to recognize Yayoi's feelings for them; possibly because he shows signs of feeling the same way. In Chapter 197, Agito says that Lind is the Egg of Judas (planted by his brother Kaito, who also made the same reference in chapter 93) and he fears eventually that Lindo will be strong to regain control over him.

  • Note that the name Lind ends with the same kanji as Akito and Agito (人). Some early fan translations have made the spelling "Lind" prominent, but in the original Japanese all of their names have the same ending, a deliberate visual rhyme.

[edit] Synopsis

[edit] Before Joining Kogarasumaru

Before this "Fang King" had joined Itsuki's team, he worked with "Wind", a force devised to capture stormriders in illegal criminal activity. Along with Akira Udou, they were the trump cards of the force. However, the unstoppable duo slowly dispatched due to a series of unfortunate events that involved a certain mission when Akira had accidentally shot a young girl's brother whose motives were misunderstood until cleared. Strucken by guilt and an innocent interest, Agito's friend was swept away by Ren's (the young girl) delicate personality.

Soon, it is seen that Ren had a motive into getting close with Akira - she wanted the "Fang" from Agito. The result of this was a clash between the two comrades, a fight for the regalia. In the end, only one victor had merged from this - it was Akira. While Akira had gained strength, he lost his only friend and seemingly disappeared with Ren, creating a team called "Behemoth". Agito, who in the past, seemed to have a small freedom while working with Akira, had his liberty taken away by Kaito, Akito's older brother.

With Agito's strength in his hands,[2] Kaito began to mis-use that power, going into greater depths to capture innocent stormriders who have been lured into traps set by the "WIND" G-men. In an event in which he gets to meet Ikki, Gonzo of the Bulls, a target of the scheme, calls Akito, or Agito, by that fact, a "traitor to all stormriders".[2]

[edit] "Behemoth" Arc

Devising a flawless plan, Agito strategizes to make an effort to get his rightful position as the Fang King back - however, his "flawless" plan goes to waste when his comrades of Team Kogarasumaru suddenly decided to make their way into the challenge. Getting ready for the preparation of the battle, Agito took charge, seeing that he knew most of what they were going to be up against. After ten days of his hardcore training, Kogarasumaru met Behemoth at their field - the Under Colosseum, a place where Agito had once ruled.

As the previous Fang King stepped up into the cube where Akira (the Fang King) had lingered, he makes a remark about how Akira had changed in the past years. Moments later, the two former colleagues soon fight. Agito expected himself to disappear after this fight, and considered the fight as a present to his other half, Akito. It is shown in this challenge, that Agito exceptionally cares for and protects Akito from everyone, and was used to seeing everyone around them as an "enemy" before he had met "the sky".

In the middle of the battle, Ikki interrupts by joining their cubes together. Agito's reaction to this event was wordless, but surrendered to the idea with Ikki as "help". Here, it is uncovered that Akito is the true Fang King, not Agito.

With limited strength, the ex-King asks Akito for more power; and then, Agito pulls away the eye-patch and released a Leviathan Fang - a move which was considered impossible without a regalia, which amazed Spitfire (who was watching with Simca). Agito knew well that Akira had powered the Fang regalia further than what he was capable of, and admitted his loss after Akira had unleashed two fangs against his fang. Just before Agito was about to be struck by Akira's fang, he was carried away by Ikki, who escaped the blast by riding on Agito's fang.

In the end of the battle, Team Kogarasumaru won with three wins (i.e. Onigiri, Ikki, & Akito/Agito) and two losses (i.e. Buccha & Kazu). What they have gained was the Fang regalia, placing Agito back up as the "Fang King of the Bloody Road". Yet, it wasn't completely over as members of the Behemoth became outraged by their loss and began to attack. This move was soon covered by the WIND G-men who came rushing in thanks to the request of Agito before the A-T battle proposal.

[edit] Current Arc

After the battle with Behemoth, Akito was hospitalized in order to recover from the injuries he received from their last battle. After leaving the hospital Akito /Agito and the others went to a trip with the school to Kensei where Ikki would meet one of Genesis's Kings, Yoshitsune, the Rumble King. During the trip Emily, Akito and Yayoi where kidnapped by members of Trident; After Ikki challenged Yoshitsune to parts wars called "Devil's thirty thirty", Agito tried to used the fang regalia to help Ikki, but Yoshitsune absorbed the wind using the rumble regalia to stop the "fang" Agito created.

After Ikki's victory over trident, Agito was hospitalized again from the injuries he received during the trip; at the same time Ikki was also hospitalized because he fractured his knee on the battle with Trident. While Ikki and Akito were hospitalized Simca was attacked by Sleeping Forest and temporarily cripple; Agito follows Ikki, who decides to leave the Noyamano house. While living on the streets, Akito and Ikki were invited by Kururu to Tool Toul To's headquarters in order for Ikki to create his own ATs. While they were staying there Agito and Ikki entered the Trophaeum and met with Sleeping Forest, there they revealed to truth to Ikki, who finds out the true intentions of Sora and why he wants the Sky regalia. After leaving TTT headquarters, Agito is seen with Kazu who is training hard to become strong enough to use to Flame Regalia that SpitFire gave him before his death.

After losing to White Wolf Clan, Agito starts training on his own in order to increase the power of his fangs. While training he meets a new member of Genesis, Orca who stops Agito's fang with a single attack. Later Orca's friend, Caesar appears and uses an attack that paralyzes Agito in fear; but Akito decides to give him his power, because he wants to help too. Orca, Caesar and Pyon girl are going where Kogarasumaru is in order to destroy them, but Agito cuts down a large tree in their path with one of his fangs to stop them; then Akito says that Agito becomes really strong if he wants to protect something or someone. Caesar decides to fight him again using his special attack, Legionarius Phalanx, but Agito dodges it and uses a dual fang to cut Caesar and making it rain blood. Caesar who refuses to lose tries to attack Agito, but he can't move because Agito uses the fang cage, to which Pyon girl replies that he's become strong enough to create a fang cage. Then Orca comes out of the vehicle so that he can fight Agito, but Caesar doesn't want to give up and uses a mechanical robot to try to kill Agito. Orca says that it is his turn to play with Agito and destroys the robot. During the battle, Agito seems to lose to the extremely strong Orca after a deadly explosive fang. However, Agito survives the attack and reveals a startling secret, strange 'cross' eyes that look like a different version of the Gravity Children's eyes. Whether Agito is a different kind of Gravity Child is still up for debate. At the beginning of chapter 193, it is also revealed that a third personality has awakened, a personality known as Lind. Lind easily outmaneuvers and overpowers Orca, slicing his throat and locking him inside a new version of the Bloody road's infinity atmosphere, Infinity Jail. Claiming the battle is over, he picks up Yayoi and tells her that women are what give men their strength. he also claims to be the original persona of Akito's body and that Akito and Agito are just babies still. Orca, not accepting defeat tries to use his full strength, but Lind orders the fangs of the Infinity Jail to shut, crushing Orca in the process. Orca is not defeated, however. Using a missile fired by Caesar, Orca forces Lind and Yayoi into a nearby lake. Using his superior speed in the water, Orca creates a vortex that sucks Lind and Yayoi down and begins to crush their lungs under the intense pressure. While Lind struggles, Agito regains control and launches an underwater fang attack at the surprised Orca. In Chapter 197 Agito tells Ikki that Lind will eventually win control over his body and requests that if that ever happens to defeat him.

[edit] Skills & Abilities

The Fang Regalia, as used by Akira
The Fang Regalia, as used by Akira

Agito is a powerful rider, as his speed and strength are far beyond most of many storm riders. Since he is the keeper of the Bloody Road, he can create a 'bloody' road by cutting into the bodies of his victims. This sadistic technique is feared by other riders. When equipped with the Fang Regalia, he releases a pressurized "Fang" through the instantaneous acceleration and braking of the A-T's wheel motors, vacuuming and compressing air into a piercing (shock wave). A sufficiently skilled user can combine two Fangs into a 'Gigaer Cross'.

[edit] Signature Moves

  • Bloody Roll Soul 1800

A brutal move that twists the opponent's body as Agito "rolls" the opponent from all sides (tearing the enemies' clothes and cutting flesh); once the attack finishes, a spray of blood will be noticeably seen pouring out from the enemy in a spiral-pattern (almost like a bloody road).[4]

  • Twin-Cam

A double team move used by Ikki and Agito. Ikki executes a 360 degree spin while holding Agito and then Agito executes a flying hook kick using the force from the spin.

  • Bloody Fang "Leviathan"

A powerful gust of fang created when both Akito and Agito's powers were combined with no regalia in use (seen in Volume 9 of Air Gear).

  • Fang Cage

The Fang Cage was one of Akira's signature moves, as seen during the fight between Kogarasumaru and Behemoth. In the hands of its creator, it was limited to only being able to be used within the confines of walls. However, against Caeser, Agito displays the ability to use an enhanced version of it, using the wind around him to compensate for the lack of walls and strengthen the cage greatly.

  • Fang Grind

A double team move used by Ikki and Agito. Agito lanches one of his fangs which Ikki then grinds turning the fang into wings allowing Ikki to fly over large distances. Doing this also increases the fangs power. This move is first used to defeat Akira and win the "Parts War" against Behemoth.

  • Infinity Jail

A new infinity atmosphere attack of the bloody road in which the rider creates a a circular infinite fang cage that continues to contan the victim until the cage implodes on the rider. A move used by Lind, the third personality of Akito/Agito.

  • Bloody Blade Fang

A new and more powerful version of the Leviathan Fang used by Agito. Unlike the Leviathan Fang which is just single slash, the Bloody Blade Fang is a slash with three stikes (most likely three other fangs).

[edit] Character Reception

The reviewer from AnimeOnDVD said that Agito was "..an amusing and enjoyable addition to the show.." and added "How can you not love a character who goes from almost psychotically violent as he tries to take down Ikki to cute and huggable?"[5]
