From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Akita Nairiku Line (秋田内陸線 Akita Nairiku-sen?) is Japanese railway line in Akita Prefecture, between Takanosu, Kitaakita and Kakunodate, Senboku. This is the only railway line Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway (秋田内陸縦貫鉄道 Akita Nairiku Jūkan Tetsudō?, "Akita Inland Longitudinal Railway") operates. The third sector company took two former Japanese National Railways lines in 1986, and the newly built line linked the two in 1989. Since the line goes through sparsely popurated area with few human interactions, it is in the severe business condition. Whether to cotinue the railway line or not is a heated debate subject in the prefecture.
