[edit] Trivia
- In 2006, Akio won the Best Voice Actor Award in the Tokyo International Anime Fair for his voice role of Black Jack.
- He has appeared in several roles with Tessho Genda where their roles are strongly related:
- They voiced two Rune-Gods in Magic Knight Rayearth, Akio voiced Windam, Tessho voiced Selece
- In the crossover Namco X Capcom, they voiced the characters from Forgotten Worlds, Akio as the Unknown Soldier 1P (the blue one), Tessho as Unknown Soldier 2P (the red one).
- Additionally, they have both voiced Honda Heihachiro Tadakatsu, a famous general in service of Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Sengoku Period, in different titles. Akio provides Tadakatsu's voice in Sengoku Musou (Samurai Warriors in US), Tessho provides Tadakatsu's voice in Onimusha 3: Demon Siege.
- The OVA Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories has Ohtsuka playing the lead villain, the Zeon ace Anavel Gato, who briefly meets with a veteran comrade from the One Year War, Kelly Layzner, played by Tessho Genda.
- In Vision of Escaflowne, Ohtsuka plays the King of Fanelia (and father to both Van and Folken) Goau. In the same anime, Genda plays Balgus, Goau's comrade-in-arms and later teacher of both Van and Allen Schezar.
- He has voiced two characters with the characteristics of flamboyant playboyish swordsman who liked to wear gaudy pink kimono: Hyo Amano of The Last Blade and Shunsui Kyōraku of Bleach
- Just as his father, Chikao Ohtsuka, voiced the main villain of the first Kinnikuman movie, Akio voiced the main villain of the first Kinnikuman Second Generations movie.
- The Fist of the North Star villain Souther was played by Banjo Ginga (who plays Solid Snake's archnemesis, Liquid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series) in the original 1980's anime series. Ironically enough, Ohtsuka took over the role of Souther in the 2006 film Raō Den - Jun'ai no Shō (The Legend of Raoh: Martyred Love Arc).
- He plays a father figure to characters played by Tomokazu Seki twice. In Vision of Escaflowne Ohtsuka plays King Goau, father to Seki's Van. In the three Full Metal Panic! anime series Ohtsuka plays Andrei Kalinin, a father-figure and superior officer to Seki's Sousuke Sagara. He also play's Seki's boss Mister in Coyote Ragtime Show. Tomokazu Seki is also the voice of the young Black Jack in the series with the same namesake.
- He also has famillial ties to Joji Nakata on at least two occasions. In Vision of Escaflowne Ohtsuka is father to Folken's Goau, and in Keroro Gunso he plays Giroro's older brother.
