Akie

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Akie (sometimes called Mosiro, which is an Akie clan name) are an ethnic and linguistic group based in Tanzania. In 2000 the Akie population was counted to number 5,268 [1]. The Akie, like other hunter-gatherer peoples in Kenya and Tanzania, are sometimes called Dorobo or Wandorobo. The Akie were joined by Bruce Parry in BBC series 'Tribe'.[1]

The Akie hunt for food and their diet consists of carbohydrates and protein. They enjoy beer which they make from honey, collected from bees nests. The process in which collecting the honey includes 'steaming' out the bees, making it possible for a tribe person to reach into the hive and grab the honey.
