[edit] Volume 2
Akemi is watched by the Black Organization most of her life.[1] Then she decides to join under the alias Masami Hirota which is her old university professor's name. She helps them with robbery in order to get her little sister, Shiho, back from them. [2]
The robbery is a success, however one of her partners takes the money and escapes.[3] In order to find him she hires Richard Moore (Kogoro Mori), pretending to be the man's highschool-aged daughter.[4] The third robber, a giant, strangles their partner in his apartment. Later, Akemi is tricked by the men in black into poisoning the giant. [5]
Akemi meets her contacts, Gin and Vodka. Gin reveals that he knows her real name and shoots her. Conan Edogawa arrives too late and she dies in his arms right after he tells her who he really is: Jimmy Kudo. As the police finds a gun besides her, her death is reported to be a suicide.[6]
[edit] Volume 58, File 599
According to file 599 of the manga, Akemi had a relationship with the FBI agent Shuichi Akai while he was undercover as a Black Organization member[7]. She had to undergo a mission in hopes of getting herself out of the organization, but was lied to and killed despite completing the mission.[8]. However, it is revealed that she left one last message for Dai (Shuichi's alias when he lnfiltrated the organization) before she died, asking if they could have a real relationship if she ever escaped the Black Organization.[9].

[edit] Episode 13 and Episode 128
While Episode 13 (The Strange Person Murder Hunt Case) is pretty much a faithful adaptation of the manga, the portion involving the mastermind is where it diverges.[10] Rather than being Gin and Vodka, the mastermind behind the murders is a character known as Okita (O'Brian in the dub).[11] Aside from the fact that the black organization isn't involved, Masami survives the gunshot.[12]
Since Shiho Miyano's appearance is coming up in the anime, the writers had to remake Episode 13 for Episode 128 (The Black Corps One Billion Yen Robbery Case). This time including Akemi Miyano and Gin/Vodka..[13]
- Despite having the exact same name and appearance from episode 13[14], there is no evidence of continuity between episodes 13 and 128, and Akemi is presented as a new character. Conan and Akemi recognize each other at the beginning of the episode, but Conan claims he met her under different circumstances when Ran asks him about it. Also, several scenes leading to Akemi's death were altered in the anime.
[edit] Episodes 491-500
- The past of Akemi and FBI agent Shuichi Akai plays somewhat of a role in the current longest running BO arc.[15] Base on the manga, with some added flashback scenes not in the manga, it is revealed that Shuichi and Akemi had a relationship.[16] She was trying to get her sister out the organization by doing a mission, but was betrayed and killed by Gin.
