[edit] Kaavya Viswanathan
Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that when you ran the spellcheck on Kaavya Viswanathan, there were edits made between when you must have copied the latest version of the article to a spell-checking word processor, and when you pasted it back in. What happened was you inadvertently deleted those edits, because the version of the article you were spell-checking didn't have them in it yet. Thanks for catching those errors in the text, but just be careful next time that you don't accidently wipe out some changes. Dylan 22:50, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wiki full dates...
Good cleanup of the Apple Computer article. I just wanted to point out that you should Wiki full dates even if they have already been linked to previously in the article. Thanks. PaulC/T+ 20:15, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Irish-singer-stub
Hi, I noticed on recent changes that you created a new stub template, unfortunatly I can not see that you have proposed it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, as all new stub templates should be, usually before they are created. I'm guessing that you didn't know that, it's ok, as long as you do it now. It might be smart to make an estimate of how many articles that would use the template, 60 articles is usually the cut-off-point. Happy editing. --Eivindt@c 01:03, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- I don't really know how many articles it might entail for this category. I can't imagine more than sixty.
- That's too bad, I thought it would be around 50-70 at least, {{Singer-stub}} has only 14 Irish as far as I can tell. [1] --Eivindt@c 01:18, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- I thought that the cutoff meant that if there were more than 60, it'd be disallowed. I could easily see upwards of that with diligent searching through the database.
- Do'h! Actually my bad, should've been more clear. There's another problem, it should be renamed {{Ireland-singer-stub}}, so it's more in line with our other stubs. And remember to sign your posts with ~~~~, it makes it easier for everyone to see who made the comment. Good luck. --Eivindt@c 01:39, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tragically hip
HIP | This user is tragically hip! |
Something like this? --Eivindt@c 02:09, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I have a different idea for the look of the box itself, but that's basically it. Now I want to create the User template so others may use it. What's involved in that? Alan 03:04, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- How do you want it to look? I just made a quick draft.
- You just create a new template User:UBX/TTH and then copy and paste the box. And then list it in the list of userboxes. --Eivindt@c 03:13, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Some odd edits you've made
Why have you continued to edit What is...Cliff Clavin? (Cheers), changing a quote that includes the phrase "I lost on Jeopardy" to link to the song, and you say you are fixing a ref. Wikilinks do not reference anything, and the quote has nothing to do with the song. What's up? Staxringold talkcontribs 01:42, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. References are external websites/books/articles/etc that prove a certain fact is true (Joe Shmoe was born MONTH DAY, YEAR with a reference to an article asserting that birthday). What you are doing is linking a phrase to a song with the same name. That is excess linking, and vandalism now that you have been told what it is. Please cease and desist. Staxringold talkcontribs 01:53, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Incorrect. At most and only if you can find a source to reference the statement it's maybe worth a mention in the trivia section. However, Cliff Clavin saying the phrase off-handedly does not warrant a direct link to a Weird Al song. He was not singing nor referring to the song. Stop, it is vandalism. Staxringold talkcontribs 02:08, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

You have been blocked from editing for violating Wikipedia policy against Continuing to vandalize in that link despite warnings. There was no connection between the song and a statement on Cheers other than four generic words referring to losing on a game show.. To contest this block, please reply here on your talk page by adding the text {{unblock}} along with the reason you believe the block is unjustified, or email the blocking administrator or any administrator from this list. Note to sysops: Unblocking yourself should almost never be done. If you disagree with the block, contact another administrator. Staxringold talkcontribs 02:12, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

- Just a note, it is a warnable offense to remove past warnings from your talk page. Staxringold talkcontribs 02:49, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it. I believe it's frowned upon as it can come off as trying to hide prior warnings from admins who are looking at your edit history down the road. Staxringold talkcontribs 02:54, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New templates
To start a new template, just start a new file, but with the prefix Template:, fx User:UBX/TTH. Or you could start a new file in your userspace fx User:Akcarver/TTH and then use {{User:Akcarver/TTH}} on your userpage, I would recommend the latter as some Wikipedians frown upon the usage of Template namespace for non-editing related issues, such as stating your favorite bands, opinions and similar, and might list it for deletion. Happy editing. --Eivindt@c 21:43, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- What the above said. Remember that in order for a Template to work and be hunky-dory it needs to be in the template namespace (Not "Joe" but "Template:Joe"). Example: Template:StargateTech, a template I wrote up (though has now been heavily modified). Staxringold talkcontribs 02:54, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] LDSInfobox
The religious leaders infoboxes reached concensus some time ago to leave the right border off - see discussion at Template talk:Infobox pope - and this concensus has survived several attempts to force the infobox class onto the template. --Trödel 03:51, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Although it is not exactly the same - the design elemnts are consistent with the rest of wikipedia. There are those that agree with you see Template talk:Infobox Pope#Uglybox. However, I would prefer we stay with the prior style which has been in use for quite some time. Thx for editing the template - I hadn't realized that the recent changes had made the template not work quite right. --Trödel 04:01, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Golden Space Needle
Hi Akcarver, I just wanted you to know that lately the Seattle International Film Festival article included a full list of winners. Should we think of redirecting Golden Space Needle there or do you think it should be another article? Hoverfish 22:03, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
I am also of your opinion. But we should discuss it also with User:Jmabel, who has compiled the table of winners lately. It would be good to find all winners in one page. Some big film awards have separate years in separate pages with year navigation, plus pages with each award (say, Best Director) for all years. For SIFF, I think we would end up with many little stub-like articles like this. One idea is if we break the over-compacted table in several tables under GSP award. Glad we're on the move one way or the other. As it is, only top-grossing films get all the attention. Hoverfish 06:52, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
OK, Jmabel gave consent, provided it's easy to find. We should make sure links are given in SIFF in the proper section. I will do the changes later today. Hoverfish 07:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I misread your message yesterday and moved in a haste. I Now see GSP is not the right name for the other awards, so I will try to solve this right away. Hoverfish 13:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Profile_in_Courage_Award.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Profile_in_Courage_Award.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:The Brazilian Job Prerelease Poster.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:The Brazilian Job Prerelease Poster.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Carol M. Baldwin
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Carol M. Baldwin, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. 99DBSIMLR 18:06, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Young_Doctors_in_Love_DVD_Box.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Young_Doctors_in_Love_DVD_Box.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 17:57, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

I have tagged Image:Tempted_and_Tried.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 07:45, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Tempted_and_Tried.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Tempted_and_Tried.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 04:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] a suggestion
I'd like to suggest that whenever you upload an album cover that needs a rationale you use the template here. It covers all of the information required with the exception of licenses.--Rockfang (talk) 04:21, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of The Numbers (website)
A tag has been placed on The Numbers (website) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] AfD nomination of The Numbers (website)
I have nominated The Numbers (website), an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Numbers (website). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. [edit] Tara Wilson move request
Your move request is not controversial and I moved it to the appropriate section. However, if another Tara Wilson is not created soon, it should be moved back to its original location. — AjaxSmack 01:30, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:First Monday in October Movie Poster.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:First Monday in October Movie Poster.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:02, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Texasville large.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Texasville large.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 20:42, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:A Man, a Woman, and a Bank DVD Cover.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:A Man, a Woman, and a Bank DVD Cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 21:19, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Bigger Deal American Cover.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Bigger Deal American Cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
