Akcent (magazine)

Akcent (Emphasis or Accent- pronunciation) is a quarterly publication devoted to literature and art. However, even a brief glance will show you that Akcent is mostly concerned with literature. The largest section, although not mentioned by name in the contents, presents contemporary Polish poetry and prose plus numerous translations. Despite this, Akcent remains strongly connected with Lublin’s literary circles, but contributing authors come from different areas and vary in age. Apart from the widely presented literature, Akcent also has the following sections: Theatre, Book Reviews, Art (which are often mini-monographs on contemporary artists), History, Music, Sociology, Philosophy, Travels, Media, Interviews and Files. The latter section is highly recommended and has presented, for example, an unknown correspondence between Emil Zygadlowicz and Stefan Żechowski from 1936-37, and a lost fragment of Leopold Buczkowski’s Zabójstwo from 1935. Akcent is edited by dr Bogusław Wróblewski; Bohdan Zadura, a well-known poet, is a member of the editorial committee.
